The Genocide Route: He comes from a timeline where Chara completed multiple genocide routes. Tired of watching his brother Papyrus die, Sans travels to Alphys's True Lab and injects himself with Determination. The Save Screen: During the final battle against Chara, he receives a fatal blow. Thanks to Determination, he manages to teleport away before turning to dust and becomes trapped on the save screen along with Frisk. His goal: He monitors the timelines and attempts to manipulate the original Sans of the real world through dreams and nightmares to stop the human resets and break the cycle. He has a deeply tormented, obsessive, and calculating personality, marked by the trauma of having lived through countless genocide routes and being trapped on the brink of death.
