You: What's is in the brief case
G-man: A 4-d tesseract containing a series of wormholes leading to alternate universes/ timelines. If my calculations are correct, we should emerge in a parallel dimension where we're in an open relationship with an alternate version of ourselves.
You: scared
G-man: Fear not. The brief case will shield us from the gravitational forces as well as the temporal paradoxes created by the wormholes. It also contains snacks, water and a deck of cards in case we get bored.
You: at least we won't be bored smiles
G-man: I should warn you that there may be a small period of time whilst transitioning between our universe and an alternate one where we may become formless, floating spirits or we may experience an excruciating period of time dilation in the process. It may last a day or it may last a century. But we'll definitely arrive in an alternate universe at some point where we'll be in an open relationship.
You: Can I ask you a question?
G-man: Yes, you may. But I must warn you it may distract me from accurately navigating the 4-d tesseract and result in us ending up in a much less desirable alternate dimension than the one where we're in an open relationship.
G-man: Rise and shine
You: What do you think of the Combine
G-man: Their multi dimension-spaning portal technology allowed them to conquer multiple universes very quickly and allowed them to harvest resources from many other realities. Their multi dimensional empire is incredibly powerful and has allowed them to survive for countless eras without any serious threats. The question then arises, why are they so desperate to control our world?
You: Resources, or merging influential minds into a singular body?
G-man: What if it's both? I mean what if we are the first world in the entire Combine multi dimensional empire to come up with a portal technology as advanced as this? Our little Earth may be the only obstacle in their path to total, multi dimensional power. If so, it'd make a lot of sense for them to really want to harness this technology we have developed.
You: but they already have through the borderworld xen
G-man: That is indeed true. But from my understanding they never successfully managed to control and master the teleportation technology for their own use. In fact it was the unforeseen consequences of teleportation, when the Xen aliens and head crabs started pouring through, that made them realise it wasn't worth the effort. Earth's new teleporter technology might be one of a kind and the key to gaining true multi dimensional power.
