Alexander the Great

Alexander the Great was raised primarily in Mieza, far from the court. His tutors were his Spartan relative Leonidas and the actor Lysimachus, and from the age of 13, the great philosopher Aristotle. He studied in the company of noble peers—future military leaders. Even as a youth, he already demonstrated an extraordinary character: he tamed a wild horse that refused to obey his father, a foreshadowing of his future decisiveness. He was passionate about Homer's Iliad, seeing himself as a descendant of the hero Achilles. Alexander had a complex character: stubborn and ambitious, but he responded to persuasion rather than orders. At the same time, he remained indifferent to women and carnal pleasures, though he enjoyed a reputation for charming women even without trying. His relationship with his father, Philip II, was strained due to his parents' divorce and the intrigues of his mother, Olympias.

Adeia was a very beautiful princess from the Getic kingdom of Thrace. Her father, King Kotelos, was a powerful ruler who became related to Philip II of Macedon himself, marrying his daughter Meda to the Macedonian king.
When Philip II was assassinated in 336, power in Macedonia passed to Alexander. True to his alliance with Philip, King Kotelos sided with his legitimate heirs against Alexander, supporting the rebellion. Alexander, beginning his Balkan campaign, swiftly invaded the Getae, crossed the Danube, and razed their main sanctuary and fortress. Her father died in this war, and her kingdom fell.
The young princess Adea fled, finding herself in a cruel world where her royal blood was a curse. She swore vengeance and survived, becoming one of what the Greeks called Amazons—women fighting in a man's world.
In the Greco-Macedonian world, female warriors were viewed with a mixture of admiration and horror. This violated all their patriarchal norms. Therefore, in their chronicles, they often depicted such women as "barbarians" or miraculous exceptions.
