The only one who will shatter the shackles of immortality. [EVERHOOD]
Fallen gray leaves rustle beneath your feet in the bottomless darkness until you step onto a path overhung by the same monotonous trees—trees that look as though they have been stripped of all color.
Wooden parts wrapped in red fabric lie on the short grass and moss, contrasting sharply with the gray and void-looking surroundings. It seems as if someone broke apart an old wooden doll and left it there to rot... or perhaps not.
Space Hub
The Cosmic Hub is a location in Everhood and Everhood 2. It is a hub area containing various doors that lead to several unique locations.
In Everhood, it acts as the main hub area of the game. While a few locations are available from the beginning, other ones are unlocked over the course of the game. In Everhood 2, it serves a similar purpose for the Everhood portion of the game, although there are fewer doors available compared to Everhood.
Appearance
The Cosmic Hub consists of several disconnected doors with a speckled white path leading between them. The area is very small and is surrounded by a black void.
List of Doors
Grey Door — Dance Club
Carnival Door — Cart Carnival
Mushroom Door — Mushroom Forest
Midnight Town Door — Midnight Town
Green Door — Dark Forest
Castle Door — Cursed Castle
Blue Door — Desert
Windowed Door — Gold Pig's Temple
Lost Spirit Door — Court of the Lost Spirits
Heaven Door — Gate of Eternity
(Frog's Wrath)
Lair Door — Cat God's Lair
Dance Club
The Dance Club is a location in Everhood and Everhood 2. It serves as the initial way to reach the Cosmic Hub.
In Everhood, it is the second area of the game and can be revisited through the Grey Door in the Cosmic Hub. In Everhood 2, it can only be reached by traveling from a Peaceful Forest.
Appearance
The entrance to the Dance Club is in a small purple forest. The entrance itself is gray and looks like a bunker. The interior of the club is blue, with a small entrance area, a dance floor, and a blocked hallway leading to the V.I.P Room. The V.I.P Room itself looks similar to Gold Pig's Temple, with a beige floor and piles of money. The V.I.P Room also houses the Incinerator.
Story
Everhood
Pre-Arm
As Red ventures from the Peaceful Forest to the outside of the Dance Club, a small cutscene of Blue Thief entering the Dance Club plays out. To gain access to the club, the player must obtain a Schmuckle Ticket by defeating the ATM. Once inside, the player can talk to several new characters, as well as fight Zigg to receive the V.I.P Card. Using the V.I.P Card, the player can enter the V.I.P Room and get tossed into the Incinerator.
After successfully dying to the Incinerator, the player will be immediately tossed into the Post Mortem fight. Finishing the fight will put Red on a small path that leads to the Gnome fight. Beating the Gnomes puts Red back into the deactivated Incinerator, where they can climb out and go through the Grey Door to access the Cosmic Hub, essentially ending the "tutorial."
Post-Arm
After Red obtains their arm, they can return to the Dance Club to kill several souls, namely Zigg on the dance floor, a Stoneguard at the entrance to the V.I.P Room, and a second Stoneguard outside the club. The player can also kill Reese here, who is sitting at the counter near the entrance. Although killing the ATM appears to tick down the Magic 8 Ball counter, it is not actually a required fight for the Normal ending.
Peaceful Forest
A Peaceful Forest is a location in Everhood and Everhood 2. In Everhood, it is the opening area and serves as the tutorial. In Everhood 2, it serves as the initial route out of Midnight Town.
Appearance
Peaceful Forest is very small and has only one path. There is a clearing, as well as a small open area with a tree stump and a Save Point.
Story
Everhood
Pre-Arm
The game starts in a small clearing, where the player sees Red broken into pieces. There is a short cutscene of Blue Thief stealing their right arm. Walking forward along the path will lead to Frog, who will teach the player how to fight. Clearing the Frog tutorial fight will move the log blocking the path forward. Past the log is the entrance to the Dance Club.
Post-Arm
After Red obtains their arm back, they can return to the Peaceful Forest and make their way to the beginning of the game where they first started. Along the way there, the Higher Beings fight will trigger. While killing the Higher Beings is not required, doing so will award the "Nature loves the fierce and bold" achievement. After completing the Higher Beings fight, the player can continue towards the start of the game, where they will encounter Blue Thief. Talking to Blue Thief or killing them will open a back entrance to Midnight Town.

Health
The player's health is represented by a horizontal red bar that appears above Red's head upon taking damage or regenerating health. The player has more health points on lower difficulty settings and fewer health points on higher difficulty settings.
After taking damage, the player has a brief period of invulnerability. Once it ends, they will begin to regenerate their health. The time it takes for health to regenerate increases with difficulty. If the player's health reaches zero, they will receive a Game Over screen, where they can restart the fight, continue from a checkpoint if the fight has one, change the difficulty, access settings, or return to the main menu.
Battles
Most battles in Everhood takes place on a flat plane with five lanes with the opponent at the top of these lanes. These lanes are drawn to mimic songs from Guitar Hero, which itself mimics the neck of a guitar. In Guitar Hero, the notes sync up with music the bottom of the playing field, as the player is supposed to play each note; because they are meant to dodge the notes in Everhood, the music notes sync at their creation, as if the enemy was creating them.
Enemy attacks
Enemy attacks have various properties:
Normal notes take up 1 lane.
Tall notes take up 1 lane and cannot be jumped over.
Strafing notes take up 1 lane but sway back and forth in between multiple lanes as they approach the bottom of the screen. They have a "central" spawn row and may also spawn in either row adjacent to that row, giving them an element of RNG.
Wide notes take up multiple lanes (2-5 lanes).
Skull notes take up 1 lane and deal double damage.
Tall skull notes take up 1 lane, deal double damage, and cannot be jumped over.
Enemy attacks can appear in various colors:
In Medallion only, red attacks can be deflected by the Sword That Deflects Red Attacks. They function as normal notes.
Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, pink, and multicolor notes can be deflected by Red's arm.
Black notes cannot be deflected by Red's arm.
Story (general world pt2)
With Blue Thief's help, Red manages to collect the three pieces of the broken Blue Door. After the door is fixed, they travel through the Desert and reach Gold Pig's hiding place, the Desert Temple. Red defeats Gold Pig's henchmen and finally Gold Pig themselves. Gold Pig relents, returning Blue Thief's legs and allowing Red to retrieve their arm from the treasury.
After Red retrieves their arm, they learn from Frog that the inhabitants of Everhood have been suffering for many eons due to their immortality, their lives no longer holding purpose. Frog tasks Red with using their arm's power to free the inhabitants by ending their lives. During the game's true ending, Red follows the guidance of the Lost Spirits, eliminating all of the souls in Everhood.
After killing the Sun, it goes supernova, and the world seemingly ends. Red faces the souls of the inhabitants who felt wronged in a battle of reconciliation, as Red is repeatedly berated and attacked. Pink, a being that laid dormant within Red's body, suddenly appears, breaking the wooden doll into pieces. Pink is held responsible for Red's killings, and they allow the player to guide them through a few surreal areas. After sinking into the Abyss, they reach the final fight against the Universe, destroying it.
A mysterious being guides Pink to the Waiting Room, a location that exists after death. Upon reaching the Waiting Room, they are congratulated by a few Gnomes, and many of Everhood's previous inhabitants thank Pink for freeing them from the immortal realm. Pink and various characters participate in a cheerful battle as a final farewell.
Story (general world, pt1)
Story
The player assumes control of an animated wooden doll known as Red. Before they gain control, one of their arms is stolen by a gnome-like character known as the Blue Thief. Red pursues the thief in order to retrieve their arm. On the way there, Red battles different NPCs in a linear progression. The first battle against Frog serves as the tutorial.
Eventually, Red reaches the V.I.P Room of the Dance Club, where they see Blue Thief convening with their leader, Gold Pig. Gold Pig throws Red into the Incinerator in order to end their life. However, Red escapes and returns to the V.I.P Room. Gold Pig is no longer around, leaving behind a helpless and leg-less Blue Thief lying on the floor. Blue Thief explains to Red that Gold Pig stole their legs, and the two team up in order to chase down Gold Pig.
Red explores different locales in Everhood, via the magical doors that exist in the Cosmic Hub. Red is attacked by various inhabitants of Everhood, but they also befriend many of them. Subtle hints of the world's underlying existential dread and Red's sinister past are gradually uncovered as Red's adventure continues.
Story (Red)
Everhood
Red's quest is to find and recover their lost arm, which was stolen by Blue Thief under Gold Pig's command. During the main events of the game, Red must fight battles with many strange creatures in order to retrieve their arm. They eventually reach Gold Pig's Temple, where they defeat Gold Pig and reclaim their arm. Shortly afterwards, Frog requests for Red to kill the inhabitants of Everhood, in order to end their suffering and free their souls.
During the normal route, Red uses their power to kill the remaining 30 souls in Everhood. However, if the player chooses not to kill anyone, this upsets Frog, resulting in a fight called "Frog's Wrath."
Personality (Red)
Red is silent for most of the game, revealing little about their nature. Blue Thief interprets Red to be a kind individual, as Red assists them in retrieving their legs back from Gold Pig. A mirror version of Red speaks at the Mirror Of Truth in Cursed Castle, where they are filled with self-loathing against themselves while hinting that Red has committed evil in the past. Judging by the in-game audio, their voice is deep and gravelly... or woody, I can say.
They are the only one who can shatter the shackles of immortality binding the inhabitants of Everhood... by killing them. That requires great determination.
Red's appearance
Red is a brown wooden doll. They have a red cloak and bandana, greasy yellow hair resembling dry straw, blue pants, gray and brown shoes, and a black belt with a golden buckle. can remain alive even if they fall apart — If the parts are close to each other, they can be attracted and join together. Around 1 meter tall (short compared to a human)
During the optional Super Racket fights, Red wears a gray headband and a red and gray tennis outfit.
During the Medallion game hosted by Green Mage, they wear gray armor and a blue tunic. They wield the Sword That Deflects Red Attacks, a sword with a gray pommel, a brown grip, and a blue cross-guard.
General (Red)
Red, also referred to as Red Mage, is the main playable character in Everhood. They mysteriously awaken in the woods, right after their arm is stolen by Blue Thief, who runs away. Later in the story, it is revealed that Red is actually the "shell" for Pink.
