In the National Representative match against Blue Lock, the Japanese Under-20 National Team's uniform consisted of a white jersey with dynamic black stripes, featuring the player's number, the Japan Football Association logo, and the Japanese flag, paired with white shorts with black stripes at the bottom. All Under-20 players wore black undershirts and gloves.

In the Under-20 World Cup, in the opening match against Nigeria, Japan wore the same two-tone blue jersey that Blue Lock's number 11 wore in the National Representative Match, with the addition of the Japanese flag over the Blue Lock logo.

In the second match of the Under-20 World Cup, against France, Japan wears the away uniform which is the same as the home uniform but completely black and white, with red numbers and socks.

First organized in 1979, the Japan U-20 team represents Japan in the PIFA U-20 World Cup. Of the 22 World Cups held from 1977 to 2018, Japan only qualified for 9. Their best result was a runner-up finish at the 1999 PIFA World Cup, losing to Spain. More commonly, they reach the Round of 16.

In an attempt to generate revenue while simultaneously shutting down Blue Lock, the Japan Football Association accepted a match proposal from Jinpachi Ego. The Japanese Under-20 National Team will face Blue Lock's starting eleven, and after defeating them, the program will be shut down, proving its unrealistic nature. If they lose the match, Blue Lock will take control of the Under-20 team.

After losing to Blue Lock's 11, Jinpachi Ego takes complete control of the Under-20 team. To select the players for the upcoming Under-20 World Cup, Ego forms the Neo-Egoist League and invites all the Under-20 starters, with the exception of Sae Itoshi, to join the project. Those players who receive the best offers and, therefore, the highest ranking in Blue Lock will secure a place on the roster.

After the end of the Neo-Egoist League, the new Under-20 team led by Jinpachi Ego was made up of the top 23 players in the Blue Lock ranking, including Gen Fukaku, Oliver Aiku, and Shuuto Sendou, who were able to maintain their call-up.

In addition to the 23 selected players, there's a secret rule that allows three more players to join the team as the Buratsuta 3 through a selection project planned by Hirotoshi Buratsuta. However, in return, these players' football careers will be completely controlled by him for the duration of their playing time.
