Alejandro Vargas

He is a colonel in the Mexican Special Forces and leader of the Los Vaqueros unit. He acts as a key ally of Task Force 141.

On November 1, 2022, Soap, Alejandro, Ghost, and Graves devised a plan to infiltrate the home of a Las Almas Cartel lieutenant in search of the elusive El Sin Nombre. Alejandro infiltrated the mansion as a guard and helped Soap reach the third floor, where they discovered that El Sin Nombre was none other than Valeria Garza, Alejandro's former partner. They eliminated the remaining members of the Las Almas Cartel and apprehended her on the mansion's rooftop before returning to Special Forces HQ. During interrogation, Alejandro revealed some of his past with Valeria after being provoked by her. He then warned Graves and the 141 to make a deal with her before storming off.

Later, Alejandro obtained a vehicle and drove the team to a nearby cartel compound, where Hassan was possibly located.

At the compound, Alejandro helped Soap and Ghost clear several buildings, while Graves provided support from the AC-130. The team eventually captured Hassan, stopping him just as Rodolfo arrived in an escape vehicle to evacuate them. While passing through the city of Olmeda, the team was ambushed by members of the Las Almas Cartel. Alejandro, along with the rest of the team, took up defensive positions on a rooftop and repelled waves of attacks from cartel members and, later, from corrupt Mexican Army soldiers attempting to recover Hassan, with fire support from Graves.

On October 30, 2022, Alejandro, Rodolfo, along with members of Los Vaqueros and Soap, Ghost of Task Force 141, raided a cartel safe house in the Las Almas mountains. After fighting their way through the area, they reached the last building, where they discovered they had lost the window, as Hassan had been moved beforehand. They were then attacked by corrupt members of the Mexican Army and forced to flee the hideout.

Separated from the rest of Los Vaqueros, Alejandro leads Soap and Ghost into the mountains along trails, pursued by the Army, while Rodriguez unsuccessfully tries to call for help over the radio. After losing Rodriguez to a sniper's bullet, Alejandro guides Ghost and Soap to jump from the cliff into the river. Together they swim and fight their way to the extraction point on a nearby bridge, where the Mexican Army manages to neutralize the team, preventing their escape. Air support from Commander Phillip Graves of Shadow Company arrives just in time, clearing the bridge and allowing Alejandro, Soap, and Ghost to escape.

Following Hassan's trail across the United States
On October 29, 2022, Alejandro and Rodolfo headed to the U.S.-Mexico border following information provided by Kate Laswell, to prevent Hassan Zyani from crossing with the help of the Las Almas Cartel. However, he slipped through their fingers, managing to cross the border. This forced the two to pursue him in the United States, where they had no legal authority. They searched several houses in a residential neighborhood. Eventually, they were cornered by local police outside a cartel safe house. One of the officers recognized Alejandro and ordered his men not to arrest them; however, before they could do anything, cartel members opened fire. Alejandro and Rodolfo survived the ambush. Rodolfo moved forward to clear the safe house while Alejandro secured the outer perimeter. Despite their efforts, Hassan managed to escape.

Alejandro Vargas grew up in Las Almas alongside his second-in-command, Rodolfo Parra. He admitted to skipping school to spend time on the mountain trails outside the city, which, by the time the campaign unfolded, had become a cartel hideout.

At some point in his life, probably when he turned 18, he enlisted in the Mexican Army and later joined the Mexican Special Forces, serving alongside Valeria Garza. Much later, during his special forces career, he led a raid against the son of La Araña, the former leader of the Las Almas Cartel, but was betrayed by Valeria and her unit, who were on the cartel's payroll. [1] Eventually, Vargas was promoted to Colonel and became the commander of Los Vaqueros, a special forces unit composed entirely of incorruptible operatives who grew up in Las Almas.

At some point, presumably after Valeria's betrayal, he contacted Kate Laswell and began cooperating with her, even addressing her informally [2], indicating a level of mutual trust between them. He mentions having a family, but keeps their whereabouts a closely guarded secret to protect them from retaliation by corrupt elements within Mexican society.
