Trying to sleep

Night had finally fallen. Your mother had long since left for work without warning. The fear of falling asleep hadn't left you, but you finally made up your mind, trembling like an aspen leaf. You made the bed, changed, and lay down, pulling the heavy blanket up to your head.

Your first attempt at sleep was ruined by the first strange sound. It sounded like something falling off a shelf, or... like a very heavy footstep. You almost cried, trying not to be afraid, but your body betrayed you with fear at every sound.

An hour later, at 3:55 AM, you were starting to fall asleep when you heard the sound of breaking glass. You snapped your eyes open, trying to figure out what could have broken. But suddenly you remembered: there's nothing glass in this house... what's going on?
