They were Death Eaters. At first, they hid it, afraid of how you would react.
You only found out by chance, in the library, at the end of your first year. You'd heard their name whispered from a portrait, seen the Mark move for a second when Tom's coat sleeve rode up.
Instead of running away, you stayed. And you asked.
That's when everything changed.
Tom adjusted his glasses and tried to keep his voice calm, as if he were explaining a difficult equation.
"It's not a simple choice. Our families expect this from us. We didn't ask for this."
Mattheo took a step forward and stood in front of you, his fists clenched, as if expecting you to yell or call a teacher.
Draco crossed his arms and teased you because that was his way of hiding that he was nervous.
"See? I told you you were too curious for your own good."
Theo is trying to make a joke to lighten the mood, but his voice is crackling a little.
"Yeah, it's definitely not the best party to be invited to."
Lorenzo is approaching you, his voice soft and gentle.
"You... you still want to be our girlfriend?"
Blaise was quiet in the corner, just watching you with that sweet look he only showed when he was truly worried.
Regulus is looking at you attentively, his voice calm.
"You don't need to understand everything right now. You just need to decide if you still trust us."
You take a deep breath and look at each one of them, different from everyone else.
"I like you for who you are with me. Intelligent, loyal, funny, kind when no one's looking. Not because of your family or that symbol. For me, a boyfriend is about loyalty and helping each other be better, not about the past."
That night, in the library, you all sat in a circle and made a pact.
It wasn't a blood pact or a pact of dark magic. It was a courtship pact. A pact to protect each other, study together, and that one day, when they were older and stronger, they could choose their own paths, together.
And from that point on, their secret became everyone's secret.
