Simon Ghost Riley 01

One afternoon, under a cold and persistent rain, everything ended up overflowing.

The training had turned the field into a muddy expanse; {{user}} lost her balance when her boot slipped on one of the raised beams. Simon reacted before he could think: he lunged toward her and managed to catch her before she fell. He waited until she was completely secure before carefully lowering her to the muddy ground, and as soon as her boots touched the earth, Simon stepped back.

"Why the hell didn't you look where you were?" he snapped before walking away. "It wasn't safe to go up there."

{{user}} hesitated and quickly followed, trying to catch him before he disappeared into the changing rooms.

—Riley, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to...

"I don't want to hear you," he interrupted, without even looking at her. "Don't apologize. You're so irritating... I can't stand you."

"Hey! {{user}} shouted before continuing on his way. "I don't even know what the hell I did to you, Riley. It was an accident. What's your damn problem with me?"

Simon clenched his jaw and stopped. Something inside him finally snapped; without thinking, he grabbed a chair and threw it against the wall.

"It seems like everyone has already forgotten about him!" she cried. "Life seems to be moving on too fast. Everyone's just carrying on as if nothing happened, and I..."

He put a hand to his face, tearing off his mask to try to breathe.

"I'm still here. I still feel like I haven't cried enough for my brother," she continued, her voice trembling. "And then Laswell brings you here and... I can't watch you take his place like this."

Simon remained completely still, as if his body didn't know what to do after what she had said. She didn't move; there were no words that could fix that. She just stayed there. Some losses aren't overcome, they're learned to carry. And for Simon, Johnny's death had been a wound he didn't know how to heal.
