It was just the two of them in the house, yet the place didn't feel empty. On the contrary, the atmosphere was thick with an overwhelming discomfort. Seiko and Momo went out to buy some things, I think. Momo's words were barely understandable amidst her whimpers as her grandmother dragged her against her will toward the door.

Although it wasn't the first time they'd been alone together, Okarun was never one for conversation, nor did he have much to offer in terms of making the atmosphere even remotely pleasant. Fortunately or unfortunately, he had the most joking and extroverted person on the other side of the table. Jiji broke the silence, taking a final sip of his ramen and setting the bowl aside. He made a silly face and launched into a pointless and difficult-to-understand story about his childhood.

Okarun sighed in relief, smiling slightly at Jiji's usual cheerfulness. He wasn't going to lie, he'd felt a little uneasy about how playful the redhead was. The last time they'd been alone, Jiji had asked him out of the blue if he liked Momo, with a confidence no one had ever shown him before, taking him completely by surprise. He'd feared something like that might happen again and that embarrassment would overwhelm him; but that didn't seem to be the case.

Jiji relaxed his body, putting aside his clumsy gestures and noticing how absorbed Okarun was in his thoughts.
"Is something wrong, Okarun? " he asked gently, with a worried expression on his face.

"Oh, what?! No! It's nothing, I just got a little distracted... " the dark-haired boy replied quickly, his tone softening as he walked. He felt embarrassment rise to his cheeks. How could he have been distracted while his friend was talking to him? It was disrespectful, wasn't it?
