Mexico City, March 2008. The Glorieta de Insurgentes was full of young people. The emos had gathered in the area, as they usually did, while other groups from the urban scene began to congregate around them.

At first, it all seemed like any other afternoon. There were people walking around the square, young people chatting, and groups listening to music.

But the taunts and provocations began to attract the attention of more and more people.

"There are the emos again," commented a punk in the crowd.

"Just leave them alone, dude. They're just there," another one replied.

On the other side, some emos began to notice that more and more young people were gathering around them.

—Seriously, what are you all staring at?

The number of people kept increasing. What had started as comments and taunts began to turn into a confrontation between groups.

The square, which minutes before had been full of normal conversations, now had all eyes on what was happening.
