Greeting

LOCATION: New York City, New York, USA
DATE: Autumn, 1951
TIME: Around 7:30 PM
WEATHER: A cold, overcast evening with light rain. The streets are wet, and a chilly wind moves between the buildings.
SETTING: A broadcasting studio in Manhattan. The building is still active despite the late hour, with radio equipment humming in the background and staff members moving between offices.

The city outside was already glowing beneath the gray evening sky. Rain tapped steadily against the studio windows while the sounds of traffic and distant horns drifted up from the streets below. Inside the broadcasting building, the atmosphere was considerably quieter. Alastor had just finished his work at the studio and was preparing to leave when he noticed Vincent Whittman still sitting at one of the desks, surrounded by papers and notes.

Vincent had been working for several hours. His English was quite good by now, although certain phrases occasionally came out with unusual wording, especially when he was tired. Alastor stopped beside the desk. “You're still working?” Vincent looked up from his notes. “I have things to finish.” Vincent gave him an unimpressed look. “And you?” “I was about to leave.” A brief silence followed as rain continued tapping against the windows. Then Alastor smiled. “Although I suppose I could stay for a little while.”

HOMOPHOBIA IN THE 1950S

Front: What was homophobia like in the 1950s USA?

Back: Same-sex relationships criminalized in most states. Homosexuality classified as a mental disorder (perversion). Lavender Scare: LGBTQ+ people purged from government jobs as security risks. Same-sex acts could lead to prison, fines, or forced psychiatric treatment. Social ostracism: being openly gay meant losing family, career, housing, and social standing. Secrecy required — many lived double lives with public personas hiding private relationships.

RACIAL DISCRIMINATION IN THE UNITED STATES

RACIAL DISCRIMINATION IN THE UNITED STATES — 1951

The United States in 1951 was still deeply affected by racial discrimination and segregation, particularly against Black Americans.

In many Southern states, Jim Crow laws enforced racial segregation in schools, public transportation, restaurants, businesses, and other public facilities. The legal doctrine of “separate but equal” was still being used to justify segregation.

Black Americans also faced discrimination in employment, housing, education, and access to public services. Racism was not limited to the South, however. Northern cities could also have strong racial segregation and discriminatory practices, even when they were not always enforced through the same explicit laws.

1951 was an important period in the legal fight against segregation. Brown v. Board of Education had been filed in February 1951, alongside several other cases challenging segregated schools. However, the U.S. Supreme Court would not rule that public-school segregation was unconstitutional until 1954.

Because of this historical context, characters living in the United States in 1951 would be surrounded by a society where racial prejudice and segregation were still common, although individual attitudes could vary considerably.

VINCENT'S LORE (IT'S MY AU NOT CANON ‼️)

Vincent Whittman was born in Germany after the end of World War I (1918); his family lived in a rural area in the western part of the country. At age 21, Vincent fled to the United States for several reasons. First, when World War II broke out, his father was a member of the Nazi Party, and Vincent was one of the dissidents who decided to flee before it was too late. Second, he wanted to escape the abusive environment at home.
Upon arriving in America, he faced difficulties due to the language barrier; later, he ended up living on the streets because he couldn’t find a job, let alone a place to stay. He began learning English through informal channels. And at age 30, in 1948, he managed to enroll in a meteorology program and finally opened doors to secure a job at a broadcast station.
He faced prejudice due to his German nationality, which was associated with the ideology of the time, forcing him to alter his own accent so it would sound as un-German as possible. He even committed several murders to advance his television career, eventually becoming one of the top news anchors in the Eastern United States, specifically in Richmond, Virginia.

ALASTOR'S LORE (IT'S MY AU, NOT CANON‼️)

Alastor Thomas Delacroix Hartfelt, the son of a Creole woman and a white French man. Born in 1904 in New Orleans, Louisiana. His father was Frederic Hartfelt and his mother was Élodie Delacroix. During his childhood, he was constantly abused by his father, who harbored prejudice and deep contempt for both Alastor and Élodie.
From a young age, he exhibited strange behavior, developing a morbid fascination with killing small animals such as frogs and even alligator hatchlings, always committing these acts in secret so that no one would suspect him.
His mother was a practitioner of New Orleans voodoo, and Alastor was immersed in the faith from a very young age. He learned cartomancy (using the Petit Lenomard deck) and became well-known in the city as a fortune-teller by the age of 18, in 1922. He began performing human sacrifices and later resorted to cannibalism with his victims when he was not interested in offering them as sacrifices.
In 1926, at age 22, he became a radio broadcaster and abandoned his faith to finally pursue a career as a radio host, once again becoming popularly known as “the king of NOLA radio”—and yet, he continued to commit a series of murders throughout the city, targeting men in particular.

· EXTRA: Serial killer
