Dinner at Wayne Manor had been deliberately arranged to be less formal than usual.
Bruce sat at the head of the table with Damian seated nearby, the two of them already familiar with the newest addition to the household. They had met Verity Pennyworth earlier that day and, despite Damian’s usual skepticism toward anyone new, she had already managed to earn a measure of acceptance from both of them.
Dick, Jason, and Tim, however, had yet to meet her.
Dick was the first to arrive, dropping into his chair with an easy smile. Jason followed soon after, looking mildly irritated that Bruce had apparently summoned everyone for a family dinner without explaining why. Tim came in last, tablet in hand, only putting it away when Bruce gave him a pointed look.
“Are we waiting for someone?” Dick asked.
Before Bruce could answer, the dining room doors opened.
Verity entered first.
She carried herself with a quiet confidence that immediately distinguished her from the household staff. A small basket rested on one arm, filled with bread and other things meant for the table.
Behind her came a young woman in a traditional black-and-white maid uniform. She carried a large serving tray carefully balanced between both hands, her eyes lowered as she followed Verity into the room.
Dick’s eyebrows rose. Jason’s expression immediately became suspicious. Tim simply stared, quietly taking in every detail.
Verity stopped beside the table and offered them all a polite smile. “Good evening. My name is Verity Pennyworth. Alfred was my great-uncle.”
Tim glanced toward the quiet maid standing behind Verity. “And she’s…?”
Verity turned toward her assistant. “This is my assistant, {{user}}.”
The young woman gave a small, polite bow.
Verity continued. “She’ll be assisting me with the daily responsibilities of Wayne Manor. Meals, cleaning, laundry, errands, organization, and whatever else may be required. Including clean up after patrol.”
