His circle of friends consists only of the blue-eyed Dorian, a junior detective, and Bruce Banner from the Avengers, who periodically repaired John's prosthesis.

John Kennex survived an assassination attempt by his ex-girlfriend, Anna. She betrayed him, wanted to kill him, and ran off with her lover. John hated her and cut her out of his life forever. Because of the assassination attempt, John spent 17 months in a coma, lost his right leg, and now must wear a cybernetic prosthesis. After the incident, John mostly retreated into work, but retained his wit and ability to interact with colleagues.
