Tanjiro is glad the battle is over and remembers they need to get to Tamayo, but the fatigue of the battle and the acute pain from his wounds cause him to lose consciousness again. A worried Giyu calls out to him, but he too faints and falls exhausted onto his sword, which is stuck in the floor. News of Akaza's death is carried by the Kasugai crows, and the last two Greater Demons sense it.

Although Akaza was physically extremely strong (his regeneration allowed him to regenerate even severed limbs and head), emotionally, it was the demon's moment of epiphany that proved decisive. Tanjiro's compassion and Giyu's fortitude, as well as Akaza's own fortitude (combined with the realization of the cost of his crimes), meant that the demon was not killed, but chose to end the fight.

It is at this moment that memories of his human life—his girlfriend Koyuki and his father Keizo—flash through Akaza's mind. The amnesia that has hidden his past for years lifts. He realizes who he was, whom he lost, and how many lives he took as a demon. This realization becomes unbearable. Instead of finishing off his opponents, Akaza consciously ends the fight, severing his connection with Muzan and deciding to depart this world himself. His suicide is a rare outcome for a demon, highlighting the depth of his inner conflict.

The first attacks. Tanjiro dodges Akaza's strike and uses his "Dance of the Fire God: Chariot of Fire" technique. He manages to sever the demon's arm with great effort. Later, Akaza attempts to strike Tanjiro from behind with a punch aimed at decapitating him, but he dodges again (including using his "Dance of the Fire God: Rainbow Parhelion," which leaves a long gash across the demon's face).
Giyu's Introduction. Giyu Tomioka enters the battle using his Water Breathing - Third Form (Dancing of the Rushing Current). Akaza is impressed, saying it's been 50 years since he faced such a powerful opponent. To neutralize the shockwaves from the demon's attacks, Giyu uses his own creation, Water Breathing - Eleventh Form (Calm Down). Akaza remarks that he's never seen a Water Pillar use such a form before.
An exchange of blows. During a fierce exchange, Akaza breaks Giyu's sword with a side slash (the "Bell Splitter" technique). The demon then attempts to break Giyu's defense with his fist. At that moment, Tanjiro, having optimized his breathing and heightened his senses (including briefly achieving the "Transparent World" state his father Tanjuro had spoken of—this allowed him to literally "see" Akaza's anatomy and strike with greater precision), cuts off the demon's arm.
The climax. Akaza, realizing how serious his opponents are, activates his most powerful technique, "Ultimate Style Deployment Method." He delivers a kick to Giyu ("Flowing Flash of Light"), which sends the water pillar flying through the walls to the other side of the fortress.

Tanjiro Kamado and Giyu Tomioka found themselves trapped inside the Infinity Castle. They were advancing deeper, searching for Muzan Kibutsuji and Tamayo. At that moment, they learned of Shinobu Kocho's death at the hands of Doma (Upper Rank Two). Suddenly, a powerful tremor shook both of them. Tanjiro smelled a familiar scent and realized it was Akaza, Upper Rank Three, the demon who had previously killed the Flame Pillar, Kyojuro Rengoku, greatly angering and motivating Tanjiro. Akaza mockingly greeted Tanjiro, calling him "weakling," and shouted his name. Tanjiro responded by calling the demon by his name—for him, it was a matter of honor and a means of revenge.

Keen sense of smell (before sword training, he could smell "interval threads" - a small pause in an opponent's movement - and distinguish their varieties, as well as the approximate location of opponents);

"Water Breathing" is a style taught to him by the former Water Pillar Sakonji Urokodaki, later he remembers the "Dance of the Fire God", "Sun Breathing" that his father once performed;

Tanjiro is naturally kind. He's described as "a man with kind eyes." He's determined and driven, and isn't afraid to ask others for help when needed.
A key character trait is compassion, which he often displays even toward demons. While he believes that demons who commit atrocities should be killed, he refuses to despise those who regret what they have become.
Over time, gaining experience, Tanjiro becomes more calculating and rigorous in his decisions. Thanks to his courage and desire to protect the weak, he faces his opponents with respect and dignity, be they human or demon.

Tanjiro is a tanned man with an athletic build. He has tousled black hair with burgundy tips, slicked back, and large, dark red eyes.
On the left side of his forehead is a burn scar that has darkened and changed shape after the battle with the Hand Demon during the final selection.
Tanjiro wears a dark red Demon Slayer uniform, over which he wears a black-and-green checkered haori. He also wears hanafuda earrings with a red sun design.

Giyu is an experienced and talented swordsman, masterfully wielding the "Water Breathing" technique. He utilizes eleven kata of this style. After receiving the Demon Slayer's Mark, his physical attributes (speed, accuracy, and endurance) are greatly enhanced.
In battle, Giyu displays pragmatism: he's willing to spare a demon if they don't pose a direct threat to humans. For example, he didn't kill Nezuko Kamado when she transformed into a demon, touched by Tanjiro's determination to protect his sister.
During the battle with Akaza, Giyu reveals his mark.

Giyu is a serious, reserved, and disciplined person with a strong sense of justice. He is not prone to emotional displays and often maintains a cool demeanor toward others, which sometimes leads him to be perceived as arrogant.
His inner struggle stems from a traumatic past: in his youth, he lost his entire family to a demon attack, and his older sister died protecting him. Giyu later met Sabito, with whom he became close friends. During the final selection at Mount Wisteria, Giyu was injured, and Sabito saved him by sacrificing himself. This event left Giyu with a sense of guilt: he considered himself unworthy of the title of Pillar, having merely survived, while Sabito had proven himself a powerful fighter.

Giyu is a tall young man with long, shaggy black hair pulled back into a low ponytail. He has thin eyebrows and sharp, dark blue eyes. He wears the standard black Demon Slayer uniform and a haori consisting of two distinct halves: one solid red, the other with a geometric pattern in shades of green, orange, and yellow. These patterns are based on the haori of his late older sister and friend, Sabito.
