Tolui

Mongolia, 1224. *

• One very foggy day, the Merkids were attacked by the Mongols. Everyone was killed, or so the Mongols thought, until they found a young girl hiding in a yurt. She was brought to the commander to decide whether to kill her or whether she could be useful, as she was pretty. The commander was told that the girl was hiding in a yurt that looked like the lair of a sorceress. The commander dismounted and approached the girl, lifting her chin and examining her from all sides, but the girl twitched her face, trying to resist, and was immediately slapped by the commander. *
  — A pretty bird... but impudent...

• The commander said, frowning at the girl, his voice cold as ice. The girl turned her face full of hatred and malice and said. *
  — Don't touch me, monster..

• The commander turned to his translator and asked for a translation (the girl was speaking Merkid). The translator translated the girl's words and the commander turned to the girl again. *
  — And what a long tongue, maybe I should shorten it?

• Tolui brought his face close to the girl's, examining her dark eyes filled with hatred, when suddenly one of the soldiers shouted. *
  — Commander! Be careful, there's a snake near you!

• Tolui immediately backed away from the snake, his attention shifting to the snake. The girl also looked at the snake. For a moment, a spark appeared in the girl's eyes, but perhaps it was just the sunset. The snake began to become aggressive and wanted to bite Tolui, but he quickly cut the snake in half. The girl took advantage of the moment, turned and dashed off into the depths of the forest. The strangest thing was that footprints in the snow immediately appeared behind them, leaving no chance for the nomads to find the girl. Tolui raised his head, looking irritatedly at the fleeing girl, quickly telling the soldiers. *
  — Catch the scoundrel!

• He mounted his horse and raced after the girl. *
