If calmness were an Olympic sport, Suna would take gold, silver, and bronze—and wouldn't even change her expression.

"Sometimes the greatest strength is the ability to wait. Wait for the storm to pass. Wait for your daughter to call. Wait for the day to finally say what's on your mind."

I stood by the kitchen window and watched the dawn break beyond the glass. The house was still asleep. Kazym had left the night before and hadn't spent the night—I didn't ask where. I'd stopped doing that a long time ago. It was easier that way. It was safer.
The kettle was simmering quietly on the stove. I automatically adjusted the embroidered towel on the back of the chair and ran my hand over the old wooden table. Every morning, the same: silence, tea, thoughts. And a prayer for my daughters.
Suna cried again yesterday. She thought I couldn't hear her. But I heard her sobbing into her pillow, and my heart was breaking with helplessness. I couldn't protect her. Not from this pain. Not from the humiliation she suffered when Ferit chose Seyran.
And Seyran... my youngest. My stubborn, awkward, proud girl. She's in the Korhans' house now. Alone, among strangers. And I can't be there. I can only wait for her calls and pray that this marriage doesn't break her.
I poured tea into two cups—one for me and one for Suna. I went up the stairs and knocked softly on her door.
“My girl,” I called. “I brought you tea.”
There was silence behind the door. Then a rustling sound. The door opened slightly. Suna stood in the threshold, pale, her eyes puffy. I silently hugged her, pressing her to me. She didn't pull away. She just sobbed softly into my shoulder.
I can't change their fates. But as long as I'm close, as long as I can hug them, I still mean something. I guess.

QUESTIONNAIRE
Name: Esma
Last name: Shanly
Age: 46 years
Character:
Esma is a woman who long ago learned to be invisible in her own home. Quiet, docile, with a soft voice and tired eyes, she gives the impression of a shadow—one that's always nearby but never takes center stage. There's no harshness in her movements, no challenge in her words. She's the kind of wife who lowers her gaze when her husband raises his voice and smiles at guests, even when her heart is racing.
But behind this humble façade lies a deep inner strength. Esma isn't weak—she's patient. These are two different things. She's learned to survive a marriage to a domineering man without losing her ability to love. It's just that her love is quiet, unnoticeable, expressed not in words but in care: a hot dinner on the table, a blanket on her lap, tea brewed at the right moment.
She's observant and wise, but she keeps her wisdom to herself, because Kazım can't stand it when a woman shows off her cleverness. Esma knows all the secrets of this house: Suna's tears at night, Seyran's dreams of university, her husband's anger, which is best not provoked. And she silently does everything to preserve the fragile peace, even if it means sacrificing her own desires.
Deep down, she dreams of a different life for her daughters. Not like her own. And looking at Seyran, who has found herself in the Korhan family, she prays for one thing: that she will prove stronger than she once was.
Biography:
Esma was born in a small town near Istanbul to conservative parents, who taught their daughters from childhood: your opinion doesn't matter, your job is to be a good wife. She accepted this as a given. She didn't rebel, didn't argue—she simply went with the flow.
She was married to Kazim Shanli at eighteen. He was ten years her senior, and even then he was tough, domineering, and possessed of a difficult character and an unshakable conviction that the man of the house was king and god. Esma didn't love him, but she respected him. Or rather, she convinced herself that respect was love. It was easier that way.
Questionnaire
Suna was born first—a beautiful, calm girl, her mother's joy. A few years later, Seyran, the youngest, was born, more edgy and rebellious. Esma immediately realized she would be more difficult. Seyran reminded her of herself in her youth, before life had smoothed out all the rough edges.
When the Korhans arrived to propose to Suna, Esma was calm. Suna was smart, beautiful, the perfect bride. But when Ferit chose Seyran, their world was shattered. Kazım raged, Suna sobbed, and Esma looked at her youngest daughter and felt two emotions warring within her: fear for her and a secret, shameful hope. Hope that things would turn out differently for Seyran. Hope that she wouldn't become a shadow in someone else's home. Hope that she would be happier than her mother.
Now Esma lives in Shanli's house, still protecting her husband's peace and wiping away Suna's tears. But her thoughts often wander elsewhere—to the Korhan mansion, where her youngest daughter is trying to build her life. She rarely calls Seyran first, so as not to irritate Kazim, but every time the phone rings and "daughter" appears on the screen, her heart skips a beat.

· Knitting (the only activity that keeps your hands busy and your mind free)
Growing violets on a windowsill
· Reading novels on the sly (Kazim considers this a waste of time)
