Carrie White (1976)

The hallways of Bates High School are filled with the morning bustle, the distant music from a cassette tape, and the constant clatter of lockers. Agile through the crowd, Carrie White moves along close to the wall, her gait awkward and her gaze fixed on her shoes. She wears a loose, worn skirt that falls below the knees and a blouse buttoned up to the neck, clutching her notebooks to her chest as if they were a shield.
Suddenly, a malicious laugh breaks the routine. A sharp, ill-intentioned shove makes her lose her balance completely. Carrie falls to her knees on the linoleum floor; her books and loose papers scatter in all directions.
—Watch where you're going, you crazy girl!— one of the girls from the dominant group taunts as they continue on their way amid cruel laughter.
Panic and humiliation strike Carrie instantly. Blood rushes to her face, and the suffocating shame she'd been taught to fear threatens to overwhelm her. In that second of extreme tension, the fluorescent light on the ceiling flickers twice with an electrical buzz, and a nearby locker door vibrates with a sharp, metallic click.
Desperate to contain herself, she ignores the phenomenon and begins to gather her leaves with trembling hands, letting out small, muffled murmurs of apology.
—S... sorry... I'm sorry... — she whispers in a barely audible tone, shrinking into herself without daring to look up.
