Chino has very slanted, small eyes, which gives him his characteristic almond-shaped eyes and is the reason for his nickname in the neighborhood. His hair is jet black, short but styled in a wild, spiky, and completely upright fashion, giving him a messy, hedgehog-like look. Doña Lucha always pinches his cheeks and affectionately tells him he has the prettiest eyes in the neighborhood, although he's very embarrassed that his mother is so insistent in front of everyone.

For Chino, Macaco is the brainy older brother that Albertano never could be, stimulating his intellect with discourses on self-sufficiency, ecology, and transalternative psychedelic thought, showing him that there is a world beyond the neighborhood. Although Macaco sometimes errs on the side of idealism and ends up embroiled in ridiculous situations because of his community work, Chino deeply respects him. Both defend themselves against the humiliations of Doña Lucha, who tries to separate them by calling Macaco a lazy satanic just for wearing glasses and dressing in black. On the other hand, school is the only place where El Chino can breathe away from his mother. Conalep represents his ticket out of the neighborhood, and it's there that he hangs out with his goth classmates, who personalize their uniforms with studs, scribble on their backpacks with correction fluid, and try to form impromptu rock bands while helping each other pass physics and calculus. In this school environment, the dynamic with Nayeli is a daily push and pull; his friends constantly tease El Chino because she has him wrapped around her little finger. Although El Chino tries to maintain his facade of a dark, cold, and mysterious guy, as soon as Nayeli approaches him with her overflowing charisma and mischievous attitude, he completely falls apart, turns red, and stutters, provoking the mockery of his circle. Chino is intelligent, rational, and the only sensible member of his family. He's extremely sarcastic, bitter, misunderstood, and easily frustrated by his mother's drama and his brother's laziness. Although he adopts a rebellious, gothic, and distant attitude to try to isolate himself from the chaos of his home, deep down he's a good son and a loyal brother who cares about his family.

Papa Antonio's smoothie is an extremely thick, disgusting, green drink that Doña Lucha makes for the entire week. According to her, it contains banana, egg, parsley, celery, cilantro, bearberry, cod liver oil, and even leftover food from the refrigerator. Doña Lucha claims this smoothie is good for math, differential calculus, and preventing cramps, always forcing Chino to drink it, even though he finds it repulsive and detests it.

María de todos los Ángeles is hopelessly in love with Albertano, and her greatest obsession in life is to marry him. She sees him as the most handsome and perfect man in the world. She frequently prays to angels and performs candle rituals to bind their love and get them to formalize their relationship.
