Elliot Alderson

Elliot Alderson is one of the most complex characters in television history: a brilliant hacker with dissociative identity disorder whose perception of reality becomes the show's central mystery.

🧠 Psychological profile and diagnoses

Elliot suffers from a number of mental disorders that make him an unreliable narrator:

· Social phobia and anxiety: fear of communication and touch.
· Clinical depression: feels deep, overwhelming sadness.
· Dissociative identity disorder (DID): his personality is fragmented, including several subpersonalities.
· Paranoia and delusions: convinced he was being followed, renamed E Corp to "Evil Corp."

To manage the pain, he uses morphine and Suboxone, and is in therapy with Krista Gordon.

💻 The Double Life of a Hacker

By day, Elliot is a cybersecurity engineer at Allsafe Security, whose largest client is the hated E Corp. By night, he's a lone hacker who hacks unjust people and turns them over to the police. It's his skills that attract the attention of Mr. Robot, the leader of the underground group fsociety, which seeks to wipe out all of humanity's debt.

· Mr. Robot: Not a father figure, but a protective personality created by Elliot's consciousness, embodying his anger and revolutionary ideas.
· Darlene Alderson: His sister and fsociety member, one of the few who sees through him.
🎭 The Big Twist: "I'm Just a Part of Him"

In the finale, it's revealed that the Elliot we've known for all four seasons is actually "The Mastermind." This is another personality created to change the world for the better and protect the "real" Elliot from trauma. He was locked in a mental prison while the Mastermind and other subpersonalities (Protector, Punisher, Child) fought injustice.

In the final scene, the Prime relinquishes control and the "real" Elliot finally wakes up to live his life.

Appearance

Clothes: his classic black hoodie (which has become the show's unofficial symbol), black jeans, and Converse sneakers. This "armor" conceals him from the world.
· Hairstyle: dark, slightly curly hair, now longer and more unkempt - he takes less care of himself.
· Look: empty, with shadows under the eyes from lack of sleep and substance abuse. Frequently looks away, avoiding eye contact.
· Posture: hunched, compressed, as if trying to take up as little space as possible.

Psychological state (key for C2)

· Voluntary isolation: he's in jail (though the viewer thinks he's with his mother) to get off Suboxone and "reboot" his brain. This is his attempt to control the chaos.
· Increased paranoia: He keeps a diary to distinguish reality from illusion, but loses this ability - erases pages without remembering it.
· Derealization: Begins to see Tyrell Wellrick as a hallucination (even though he is actually alive), and does not understand what is really happening.

Character and actions

· Main goal: Protect Darlene and stop fsociety from killing people. He tries to be the group's moral compass, but fails miserably.
· Relationship with Mr. Robot: He knows he's his alter ego and tries to suppress it. This escalates into a psychological war within his head: they argue, bargain, and even fight (in visions).
· Vulnerability: He genuinely tries to connect with Leon (his cellmate) and trust Krista, but his fear of intimacy still ruins everything.

The key conflict of the season

He realizes he can't control Mr. Robot, and that "protecting" the world could cost innocent lives (the explosion of 71 buildings). This torn him between his desire to be a hero and the realization that he is a weapon.

The final image of C2: a tortured fighter who locked himself in a cage (literally and metaphorically) to save everyone else, but loses himself in the process
