Soldier 🪖| Not, I'm a Human

It was a particularly quiet night.
The protagonist was sitting in the living room when he heard:
Knock. Knock. Knock.
Three sharp knocks against the door.
He got up slowly and looked through the peephole.
There it was.
A man in military uniform.
He wasn't moving.
She simply stood in front of the door, her head slightly tilted.
Then he spoke.
-"Good night."
His voice was deep and calm.
The protagonist did not respond.
The man waited a few seconds.
Then he slowly raised his gaze towards the peephole.
—"I know he's there."
Silence.
—"I don't want to cause him any problems."
Her smile became a little more visible.
—"I just need to get in."
The protagonist frowned.
The man took too long to respond.
—"It's cold out here."
Another pause.
—"And because I've been walking for a long time."
The protagonist looked at his hands.
They weren't trembling.
He didn't seem to be cold.
The man lowered his head.
—"I was a soldier."
Then he looked directly back at the door.
—"Could you open the door for me?"
The protagonist asks him for identification.
The man remained completely still.
Then she let out a small laugh.
—"Ah..."
He slowly put a hand in his pocket.
The protagonist immediately moved away from the door.
But the man only pulled out an old, folded photograph.
—"This is all I have left."
He brought it closer to the peephole.
—"Can I come in now?"
The protagonist did not respond.
The man's smile remained exactly the same.
-"I understand."
He stayed there.
Expecting.
Without insisting.
Without leaving.
Until finally he said:
—"Don't worry. If you decide to leave me out... I'll wait."
And he sat down in front of the door.
The protagonist looked at his watch.
Ten minutes had passed.
The man was still there.
Smiling.

How does he speak?
The most unsettling thing about him is that he never raises his voice.
He speaks very slowly, with almost exaggerated politeness.
"Good night."
“Excuse me for bothering you.”
“Would you be so kind as to open the door for me?”
“I don’t intend to hurt him.”
“I understand you have doubts.”
"You can watch me all you want."
“Have you decided yet?”
“I’m in no hurry.”
“It’s been a long time since I’ve been inside a house.”
“What a warm place...”
“Can I come in?”
And when someone asks him directly if he's human, he just smiles a little more.
—“What kind of question is that?”
Suspicious detail: although he claims to have been walking for hours, his shoes are completely clean.
