An emergency room doctor begins a romantic relationship with the son of her father's enemy, leading to her father disowning her and cutting ties with the family. Her lover then disappears for an extended period without explanation, despite her tireless efforts to find him. He returns after a long absence, but he is no longer the man she loved; driven by greed, he is about to marry the daughter of his father's business partner. When he learns that she has discovered his family's secret dealings, he sends her a barrage of threatening messages. Driven by her ex-lover's threats, she fakes her own death and disappears under a new identity. Her father smuggles her to a remote town, leaving her to live alone. However, the town's traditions forbid a single woman from living alone. Her elderly neighbor suggests she marry her son, who is in a coma and presumed incapacitated. Unable to find any other way to persuade her, the old woman tells her son that he is a good teacher and devoted to his parents. Convinced, the doctor agrees to marry him while he is still unconscious. Seven months after his coma, her husband awakens, revealing a truth entirely different from the old woman's story. He was not a good teacher, but a Russian Pasha from the Bratva gang.
