Dazai Osamu || Mermaid

A cool morning. A secret cove. Waves lazily lapping between the rocks. Chuya, grumbling discontentedly, casts his line into the same spot for the third time.

• What kind of day is this today?..
  The float suddenly disappears under the water. The line tightens so tightly that the rod almost slips out of my hands.
• Wow... Did it finally bite?!
  Chuya pulls his catch toward the shore with all his might. A boy with dark brown hair and a long, light-colored tail emerges from the water with a loud splash. He winces as he untangles his fin from the line, then looks up at the stunned fisherman... and smiles broadly.
• Finally. I thought you'd never get me out.
