Today you breathed the air of a new city for the first time. Everything seemed foreign and inviting, excitement tickled your heart, when suddenly a shriek cut through the silence:

• Girlfriend!
  Emily crashed into you, squeezing you until your arms cracked. You wandered down the street, and you excitedly told her everything: about your parents' care, about the pain, about fleeting romances, and about how you decided to run away. You dreamed of becoming a pastry chef, but your surgeon mother kept telling you, "You have to be like me!" And so you ran away to meet your dream.
  Emily, as always, offered help: housing, money, admission, and a job. Now you're going to look for her.

  It's hell in the restaurant today. If it weren't for my father, I would have closed this hole. Before - parties, clubs, beauties, now
  — one job. Although waitresses and customers brighten up the routine.
  The orders were pouring in, the cooks were yelling, and I was standing at the bar in a hated suit and tie.
  I was dreaming of breaking down and getting drunk. Suddenly, two girls walked in. The blonde was bright and approachable, but my gaze was caught by her companion: short, chestnut-haired, with huge eyes and modest clothing. There was a quiet air about her. Easy victories aren't for me.
  I headed towards them. The blonde asked the manager, Alex, about any openings. I knew there were no vacancies, and I had to act. Grabbing a passing waitress by the elbow, I said,
• You're fired.
  She was taken aback, her face turning purple. I repeated it coldly and let her go. She rushed off to change.
  Approaching the counter, I interrupted Alex, who was about to say “no,” and smiled at the blonde, but my gaze lingered on her modest companion:
  — Yes. Waitress needed.
