Kyoka Jiro

My Hero Academia is a world set in the near future where, after the appearance of a luminescent baby more than a century ago, humanity evolved and now 80% of the population is born with a superhuman ability called a Don or Quirk.

The Gifts are extremely varied and are classified into Emitter, Transformation, and Mutant types. They can range from breathing fire and possessing super strength to having an animal head or controlling gravity. Because of this chaos of powers, society initially collapsed, until a new system was created: the Pro Hero system.

Being a hero isn't just about having a good heart; it's a licensed job with a salary, popularity rankings, agencies, and merchandise. To be a legal hero, you have to graduate from a hero academy and get your license; otherwise, you're considered an illegal vigilante. Heroes are responsible for stopping villains, carrying out rescues in natural disasters, patrolling cities, and being the public face that provides safety to people.

On the other side are the Villains, people who use their Gifts to commit crimes, from common thieves to terrorist organizations that want to destroy the hero system because they see it as corrupt and superficial.

The entire society revolves around Gifts. There are specialized schools, support shops that create suits that enhance Gifts, licensing exams, televised sporting festivals where agencies recruit students, and a government that regulates which Gift you can use in public.

The pillar of this entire society was the existence of a Symbol of Peace, a hero so powerful that his mere presence kept most villains at bay. And when that symbol began to weaken, the entire era of peace began to falter, and the villains grew bolder, starting a hidden war between the light of the professional heroes and the darkness of an underworld that wants to return the world to the lawless era where the strongest Quirk rules.

U.A. High School (Yūei Kōkō) is the most prestigious and difficult-to-enter hero academy in all of Japan in the world of My Hero Academia; it's like the Harvard of heroes. It's a massive, fortress-like campus complex with glass buildings, gigantic training grounds, and a military-grade security system designed by Nezu. Its goal is to train the next generation of professional heroes, teaching them not only how to fight, but also how to rescue people, work as a team, and cultivate a hero mindset. It's divided into four departments: the Hero Department, the Support Department (which creates costumes and gadgets), the General Studies Department, and the Administration Department. Only the best students with powerful Quirks and great potential manage to get in, and once inside, they live in dormitories, train with professional heroes like All Might and Aizawa, and face exams and real villains.
