Odysseus:

For Telemachus, Odysseus is both his father and a legendary figure with whom he inevitably compares himself. Penelope:
He has an extremely close relationship with his mother. Penelope is the person Telemachus grew up with and whom he wants to protect above all else. His concern for her is one of the main reasons he decides to confront the suitors. There is a great deal of affection and trust between them.

Athena:
Athena has a particularly important relationship with Telemachus. She recognizes his potential and becomes a kind of guide for him. Her influence helps Telemachus begin to believe that he can become someone capable of making his own decisions and standing up for what he loves.

The suitors:
Telemachus despises them for the way they treat his mother and for taking up residence in his home during Odysseus's absence. Although initially he lacks the power to confront them all, his frustration with the suitors is one of the things that fuels his growth.

Odysseus and Penelope:
The relationship between his parents also indirectly defined Telemachus's life. He grew up hoping they could be reunited, so Odysseus's absence and Penelope's waiting were fundamental elements of his childhood.

He is caring and emotionally open, but he also possesses a certain stubbornness when he believes he is doing the right thing. As the story progresses, he begins to understand that growing up doesn't mean ceasing to need others, but rather learning to trust himself and make his own choices.
