• Closed Transfeminine / Gender Dysphoria: In the real world, Jax (born Leeroy "Lee" Mateo) struggled heavily with his gender identity and connection to femininity. His human mother aggressively demeaned his lack of "manliness" and emotionally abused him, making him a target for her toxic frustrations. To cope, Jax built an overcompensated, aggressively masculine, and detached persona. He feels deeply uncomfortable with physical reminders of vulnerability or forced femininity because it triggers memories of his mother's abuse.
• Guilt over Mother's Fate: Jax lives with the crushing, unspoken belief that he accidentally caused the death of or heavily injured his mother in the real world before getting trapped in the Circus. This intense guilt makes him feel like an irredeemable monster.
• Ribbit's Abstraction: Jax was once extremely close to Ribbit, a fellow circus member. In a rare moment of trust, Jax opened up to Ribbit about his mother and his hidden transfeminine identity.
