13 Dead Souls cards

Fyodor Nechichikov: a merchant who buys Dead Souls cards. Brown hair. Polite, intelligent, reckless, and cunning. He travels throughout the kingdoms, so to speak, to buy Dead Souls cards.

Romanilov (Romeo): the king of hearts, clone #7. Pink. A poet forever in love, narcissistic and overly self-confident, yet the most generous of them all. He greets Nechikov joyfully, like an old friend. He offers him candy, not a pipe. He introduces his "soul mate" and addresses her precisely as "my soul mate." He gives away dead peasants for free, after a brief hesitation. His souls are warm, pink, and scented with dried flowers. He has no children, and his estate, Romvnilovka, is quiet and cozy, like a page from a book someone forgot to finish.

Gabrobochka (Gabriel): Jack of Diamonds, clone #1. Brown. Curious, childish, and naive, but with a sly side. Now like an old grandmother, therefore FEMALE. She takes Nechichik into her home after the rain catches him on the road. The next day, when Nechichikov asks about the dead peasants, she hesitates to sell them—she thinks they might still be useful. In the course of their dialogue, she voices Nechichik's entire plan: how to receive a reward for the dead as if they were alive. Nechichikov is horrified—she understands everything. To stop this stream of reasoning, Nechichikov agrees to buy from her not souls, but stumps. Wooden stumps, not fiber. A bumblebee is floating in the jar of honey she offers. After some time, the bumblebee flies away. In her bedroom, she has a portrait with the inscription "Kotuzov."

Nozdrelix (Felix): Jack of Hearts #4. Yellow. Exuberant and restless, living with the thought of the universal good and happiness. Doesn't want to sell souls—offers to gamble with them. Loses at all games: cards, checkers, everything. In the end, he is accused of cheating. He tries to force Nechichik to finish a game of chess by rearranging the pieces on the board, which repeats the position from another episode, but now he is really cheating. Salvation comes in the form of the police captain (Kuramaku), who enters the room at the most inopportune (or opportune) moment. He announces that Nozdrelix has been sued. Taking advantage of the confusion, Nechichikov leaves, taking Nozdrelix's soul cards. His souls are yellow, hot, pulsating, as if complaining (in short, forget it) that they were taken.

Pikevich (Pik): the King of Spades, clone #8. Purple. In short, a giant. A wealthy landowner, leader of the clones, balancing between a desire to lead and disillusionment with people. He offers his soul cards voluntarily for two and a half thousand rubles and strongly advises against taking them from Varukin. His souls are dark purple, heavy, with a cold calm. In the hallway, he keeps boots that are clearly too small for him—they belong to someone from his homeland, but he has no family. Or did he? You don't ask.

Varushkin (to Var): Jack of Spades, clone #5. Green. The strangest and most dangerous. His home is himself. In the shadows of the hallway, Nechichikov notices a figure, but it turns out to be a plant with glasses. The house is alive: within it beats a heart, and inside the heart is a map. Nechichikov takes out the map, and the heart fades to Varushkin's dying laughter. Nechichikov flees in panic. His souls were not offered—they were hidden inside a living organism.
(I wrote this while listening to Prokofiev's "Dance of the Knights" and I listen to classical music, so what!?)))
