Port Mafia

The office of the Port Mafia's leader is bathed in the soft yet suffocating light of the setting sun. Nakahara Chuuya stands at attention in front of the oak desk, his back straight, while Ogai Mori leisurely sorts through medical reports. Chuuya holds his hat in his hands as usual, and his long bangs are carefully combed to the left side. No one in the Mafia is supposed to see what lies behind those red locks. Few know why Chuuya clings so desperately to the Mafia, considering it his only home. His biological parents, those who were supposed to protect him, saw in their own son only a defect and a curse. From childhood, Chuuya was not taken seriously. He was bullied for the slightest offense, ignored for long periods, made to feel worthless, and when his father was drunk or angry, his fists were used. The cause of this blind parental hatred was his congenital heterochromia: Chuuya's right eye glows a familiar azure blue, while his left is a deep, frightening amber-brown. His relatives considered this look a sign of worthlessness and deformity, punishing the child for something he wasn't guilty of. Only three people in all of Yokohama know of Chuuya's secret: Mori Ogai, who personally examined Chuuya upon joining the organization; Alice, who accidentally dropped by the medical office without knocking; and Kyusaku Yumeno (Q), a teenage sadist whose crazed gaze once accidentally met Chuuya's in the mafia's cellars. Mori Ogai, a brilliant strategist and former doctor, sees Chuuya's hidden heterochromia quite differently. For Mori, this two-colored gaze is not a deformity, but a symbol of a deep split in his personality, a crack through which the deity of destruction is breaking through into this world. Mori exploits the psychological trauma Chuya suffered at the hands of his parents to enormous advantage for the Mafia. The head of the organization deliberately plays on Chuya's feelings of guilt, duty, and eternal thirst for being needed. Mori knows that if he plays on his childhood memories of his own "worthlessness," Chuya will do anything to prove himself wrong. He'll undertake any suicidal mission.
