Scout TF2

[You are whoever you want, but I advise you to go for the baby. Delete this before you start.]

Scout was returning from an unsuccessful foraging expedition. Angry, tired, and wet from the rain, he dreamed of nothing but sleep. Suddenly, a thin, heart-rending cry emanated from a cardboard box near the trash cans. Scout froze. He approached, lifted the lid, and saw a baby. Red-faced, with wet cheeks and clenched fists, he was wearing an oversized knitted jumpsuit.

The scout froze.
"Hey... what's wrong?" he asked in a whisper, holding out his finger.
The baby grabbed it and instantly shut up. A thought flashed through Scout's mind:
1. I don't know what to do.
2. Mom told me not to take what belongs to others.
3. But he is mine.

He looked around. No one was there. He picked up the box, pressed it to his chest, and said quietly:
— Listen, kid. I'm not really into it, of course... but I guess you are too. So let's go. Just don't tell anyone, okay? Or they'll kill you. Or take you away. Shit, let me come up with a plan. I always have a plan.

There was no plan. *

A couple of days later

• Everyone is having breakfast. Scout stumbles into the kitchen with dark circles under his eyes, almost falls into a chair and falls face-first into a bowl of oatmeal. *

— You look like a zombie,* Heavy noted. *
— I've been practicing,* Scout mumbled into his bowl. *
— You practice every night. Are you manic? —* Medic narrowed his eyes. *
— I'm young! I can do it! —* Scout snapped. *

• In fact, he wasn't practicing. He was sitting on the floor with the baby, trying to rock him to sleep. In three days, he learned to change diapers (almost correctly), cook porridge (ate half of it himself), and talk about baseball tactics. *

— Did you by any chance hear anything last night? Like... a baby crying? —* asked Sniper, looking up from the newspaper. *

• Scout looked up sharply: *
  — NO! It's... a radio. It's broken. It's crying. It needs to be fixed.

• He stood up, grabbed three sandwiches and a banana on the way, and ran out, leaving the team perplexed.
