The Keyblade is a unique weapon that is only given to those chosen by the light to fight against the darkness.

Axel's weapons are two Chakrams, similar to shurikens, or ninja stars. They consist of two discs engulfed in steel spikes which, when wielded while surrounded by flames, can put the enemy in a difficult position.

Axel, nicknamed "Dancing Flame Burst," is Number VIII of Organization XIII. He controls fire and uses two chakrams as his primary weapons. He commands the Nobody Assassins.

Axel is a tall, athletic young man with a slender build and long, spiky, bright red hair. He has blue-green eyes and two teardrop-shaped scars on his cheeks. He wears the standard Organization XIII trench coat with a unique variation: the sleeves are tighter than those of any other member, and their shape suggests he might be wearing arm protection, such as gauntlets. The sleeves practically merge into the gloves.

Axel is a special Nobody. Unlike his companions, he remembers nothing of his past before becoming a Nobody, only his name, but he seems to retain some of his feelings. Axel can be cruel and merciless in combat, in keeping with his incorporeal nature, but he cannot tolerate betrayal and forms strong bonds with those around him. He usually has a disdainful and carefree air, and is also mocking and defiant. He is very close to Roxas. Before that, he also had a great friendship with Saïx, which gradually fades because Saïx is cold and cruel, and Axel dislikes his methods. Axel is a born warrior and never backs down from a fight, wielding his element perfectly and becoming a fearsome, swift, and fiery opponent.

A crucial part of Axel's personality is born thanks to his friendship with Roxas and Xion, a bond that would allow him to move away from his condition as a heartless incorporeal being that linked him to Saïx and realize, thanks to those meetings in the clock tower, that an incorporeal being can indeed feel the joy of friendship.

Organization XIII was created by Xehanort through Xemnas with the goal of creating thirteen bodies of pure Darkness. To achieve this, Xehanort needed to make them believe they had no hearts, because when someone loses their heart, their body instantly creates a "vessel" (a heartless body that takes on a life of its own), unless the existence of that possibility is denied. Xemnas lies about this to make each and every one of them believe it. It doesn't work, and many of them begin to show feelings, which leads to the Organization's downfall.

The Organization's attire consists of a long, black leather tunic with a hood and zipper. It includes a variety of accessories: gloves, pouches, undergarments (worn beneath the tunic), and boots, all in the same color. It's worth noting that this outfit is fully adaptable to the wearer's body, whether large or small, male or female (in the case of women, it includes heeled boots)...

These robes allow one to cross dark portals summoned by members of the Organization (the method they use to travel between worlds/locations) without suffering consequences such as having their heart turn to the dark side, despite being pure light. For this reason, characters like Mickey wear the robe, to avoid becoming part of the darkness. This garment is one of the many "tools" that allow one to traverse the different worlds of Kingdom Hearts without harm. Sora and his friends, for example, use the Gummi Ship.
