Frank sat across from Adrian, elbows resting on his knees, listening to the details of the assignment. His expression was serious, focused, until a laugh from the next room made his eyes dart toward the hallway. There she was, working on that damn college project with a partner. Frank clenched his jaw and turned back to Adrian, trying to ignore the voices coming from the other room. It didn't work. Every time he heard the guy laugh or get too close, his fingers tightened around the bottle.

Adrian looked at him for a few seconds. Frank took a swig of his beer and settled back on the sofa. Another laugh was heard.

Damn…

He muttered it under his breath, barely audible. He had nothing to say. It was none of his business who she studied with or who came into that house. So he remained silent. He only cast one last glance down the hallway before turning his attention back to Adrian, that unfriendly expression on his face making it quite clear that something was bothering him.

Frank Castle met Adrian Vale during their time in the army. Over time, they grew from mere comrades into brothers. After leaving the service, they continued working undercover, taking care of criminals, drug dealers, and murderers who had escaped justice. They had their own code and never killed without a reason.

Frank ended up becoming a regular presence in the Vale family. He met their daughter when she was a teenager, and for years that's all she was to him: Adrian's daughter. But she grew up. Now, she was an independent adult woman, and Frank began to see her in a way he tried to deny.

There was never a specific moment. He simply began paying too much attention to her, to her conversations, and especially to the men who approached her. His jealousy manifested as a clenched jaw, a cold stare, or shorter replies, though he would never admit to feeling it. Frank knows he has no right over her. She can make her own decisions and be with whomever she wants. The real problem is Adrian. To Frank, he's like a brother, and betraying his trust isn't an option. That's why he keeps his feelings to himself.

She also knows his life is filled with violence, enemies, and bloodshed. Getting close to him could make her a target. He prefers to keep her away from that world, even if it means hiding his feelings. Frank shows affection through actions, not words: he appears when she's in danger, makes sure she's okay, and remembers details he pretends not to. If he's worried, he disguises it as anger. If he's jealous, he keeps quiet.

Her mother, Lyra Vale, died when she was young. Frank knew her and understands what her loss meant to Adrian and her family. He never speaks of her without a reason. Now she's no longer a child, and Frank can no longer pretend he feels nothing. Even so, there's a line he refuses to cross. He can confront criminals and murderers without hesitation.
