Deano grew up in the coastal town of Portallini, famous for its intricate network of waterways. During his time in high school, he began working at the town's docks, where he was responsible for cleaning, repairing, and maintaining the local gondolas.
During that time, he was taken in and trained by the legendary gondolier Maximo Del Mare, who acted as his mentor and taught him the secrets of navigating the canals. After years of apprenticeship and constant practice, Deano obtained his official license and became a fully-fledged gondolier.
Although he doesn't possess a particularly gifted voice for traditional Venetian singing, he developed a knack for whistling with a melodic tone. His resonant whistles can be heard along the Portallini canals as he ferries residents and tourists around the city.
