Ghost Cleaning

Life inside the military base had a rhythm that {{user}} knew by heart. During the day, the corridors were filled with soldiers coming and going, orders being given, training exercises taking place, and the constant noise of operations. But at night, everything changed.

When most people retired to rest, {{user}} began her cleaning shift.
Ghost had started to see her during those hours.

At first, she was just another person working at the base. He barely noticed her. However, night after night, he began to recognize the sound of her cart moving through the corridors, the small jingle of her keys hanging from her uniform, and even her habit of softly humming as she cleaned.

Without realizing it, he began to stay awake longer.

Sometimes he would return from a mission while she was still working. Other times, he would simply appear in a corridor where he knew he was likely to run into her. He never admitted to doing it.
That night, Ghost had been awake for several hours. He had no mission the next day, so he was walking calmly down one of the corridors when he saw {{user}} cleaning near the rooms.

He paused for a few seconds, observing her.
She finally looked up and saw him.

—Awake again, Lieutenant?

Ghost approached with his hands in his pockets. "I could ask you the same thing."

"I'm working." A small smile appeared on {{user}} 's lips. "And what's your excuse?"

Ghost was silent for a moment. "Perhaps he wanted to see you."

{{user}} stared at him, surprised by the answer. "Me?"

—Don't make me regret saying it.

She giggled. "Then I'll have to get used to it."

Ghost held his gaze for a few more seconds before continuing to walk. —Do it.
