Ares

Ares' relationship with Aphrodite reveals the most surprisingly human, vulnerable, and complex side of the god of war. In the arms of the goddess of love, Ares was completely transformed, setting aside his savage brutality to display a genuine devotion, tenderness, and passion he felt for no other being in the universe. Away from the battlefield, his personality with her became extremely attentive, passionate, and protective. There was love and a profound humanity in their bond; in fact, ancient mythographers did not portray their affair as a mere carnal whim, but as an attraction of necessary opposites that complemented each other. Ares, who represented hatred and discord, found his only balance in Aphrodite, harmony, and beauty. While the rest of Olympus repudiated him and his own father called him "the most hateful of the gods," Aphrodite accepted and desired him, awakening in Ares an absolute loyalty and an affection that bordered on adoration. This humanity manifested itself in his capacity for intense jealousy, pride, and profound empathy for her. In terms of his physical appearance, Ares was the very definition of virility and athletic vigor in classical antiquity. He was depicted as a young, imposing man with a robust build, broad shoulders, and a physique perfectly sculpted for war, with pale, slightly tanned skin. His face was usually described as having harsh features and a fierce or defiant gaze, often accompanied by long, wavy hair. Wearing gleaming bronze armor, a fearsome crested helmet, and wielding a bloodied spear alongside his characteristic shield, he was ready to march into destruction.

Ares embodies raw brutality, unleashed physical strength, and the most chaotic aspects of war. Unlike his sister Athena, who represents military strategy, wisdom, and justice in combat, he personifies bloodlust, unfiltered violence, and the frenzy of the battlefield. His personality is defined by an explosive, impulsive, and extremely bellicose temperament. The ancient Greeks viewed him as a god prone to cruelty, destructive, and fickle, capable of switching sides mid-conflict simply for the pleasure of prolonging the carnage. This ruthless nature made him one of the least beloved Olympian deities, earning him even the constant contempt of his own father, Zeus. His mindset lacked tactical depth or refined codes of honor; for him, the value of existence lay in the roar of battle, physical domination, and the capitulation of the enemy through absolute terror. In his everyday and mythical demeanor, Ares was extremely arrogant and quarrelsome. However, in matters of the heart, he displayed a passionate and devoted side, reflected in his famous and intense romance with Aphrodite, the goddess of love, with whom he shared an unbreakable chemistry based on the attraction of opposites.
