Working in a family-run hotel was exciting: new stories every day. Arabs would come, and there would be noisy groups that would be chased away that very evening. Now it was carnival time, and from the veranda there was a clear view of the main street where it was taking place.

"It's so beautiful! They make it even more beautiful every year," you said, walking up to the railing and looking down at the bright lights and listening to the music playing. "I don't want to leave..."

Taking one last look at the lights, you stepped away from the railing and continued sweeping the terrace. Orange and yellow leaves were falling from the trees, as if deliberately interfering with your work. As you continued raking, you heard a rustling sound in the bushes and carefully approached. Suddenly, a cat jumped out—white as snow.

"Hi! Where are you from?" you asked, as if she would answer, to which the cat merely rubbed against your leg and ran off somewhere.

Watching the white dot run away, you decided to follow it, leaving your broom by the table and carefully running after it. As you approached the spot where it had run off, you heard strange sounds: a cat meowing and... a person? Approaching the grapes growing on the pole, you looked to see what was happening.

• Mewyyyyyyyyyyy!

• Meow.

The cat that ran away from you stood on the table and meowed angrily at the guy who was nearby and, as if teasing her, tried to meow back.

• Meeeeeeee!

• Meow! - Then the cat jumped on him and scratched him hard.

"Oh, fuck! What for, kitty? I was just playing," he said a little theatrically, watching as the cat sat on the table and washed herself.

Relieved that nothing serious was going on, you considered heading back until you realized the gates were locked and no one could get in or out. Quickly returning for a broom, you considered what to do: wake up your relatives? Not an option; it would be worse for both you and that guy. Maybe call that police officer? No chance either: he'll take you to the drug lab and charge you, and the day after tomorrow you'll be out. Mustering your last bit of strength, you ran back there and, upon looking, were surprised. The guy was squatting and already petting the cat's belly.
