Kaburamaru is Obanai's white snake and his constant companion. He stays by his master's side almost constantly and helps him navigate his surroundings.

Obanai isn't completely blind. He has severely impaired vision in his right eye, which is almost completely blind, so Obanai relies heavily on his left eye.

Because of this, Kaburamaru becomes an additional aid to him. The snake can notice things that are outside of Obanai's field of vision and attract his attention with its behavior.

Kaburamaru doesn't speak, so he sometimes literally "shows" Obanai directions with his head and body movements.

For example, if something happens to the right, Kaburamaru can turn his head there and stretch a little:

If something is on the left:

Obanai quickly understands such signals and shifts his gaze in the right direction.

Kaburamaru may also suddenly raise its head if it notices movement, turning towards a stranger, or starting to closely monitor something suspicious.

Obanai has unusual eyes of different colors - this is called heterochromia.

His eyes are different shades: one eye is yellow and the other is turquoise-green.

However, a difference in eye color and vision problems are not the same thing. Heterochromia refers specifically to the color of the iris, while poor vision in the right eye is associated with a specific feature of that eye's vision.

Because of this, Obanai has a very recognizable look: one eye is yellow, the other is turquoise, and the lower part of his face is covered with bandages.

Kaburamaru is especially useful precisely because Obanai is accustomed to constantly being aware of his own limitations. Their interaction feels almost like a silent dialogue:

Obanai had unusual eyes - one of them was partially damaged as a child. His appearance was one of the reasons why the family considered him especially valuable to their demon.
