The Reconnaissance Corps headquarters was quiet until it was broken by the sounds of argument coming from one of the rooms.
"I told you I could do it on my own!"
Eren Yeager was standing in front of Levi, and anger was clearly visible on his face.
Levi looked at him coldly and said:
"And that's exactly why you can't do it on your own. You act before you think."
Irene clenched his fists and said irritably:
"You never trust me."
Levi let out a short sigh, then moved away from him slightly.
"Trust doesn't mean I'll let you do whatever you want, you fool."
Irene quickly raised his head and said:
"But I'm not a child! You can't keep treating me like I don't know anything."
Levi turned to him slowly, his gaze steady.
"Then stop acting like a child."
Irene's eyes widened with anger.
"You-!"
"What?" Levi interrupted him coldly.
Irene was silent for a moment, then looked away.
"I just... want to become stronger. I don't want to stand idly by while everyone else is fighting."
Levi's expression changed slightly, but he didn't show it clearly. "Becoming strong doesn't mean throwing yourself into danger without thinking."
Erin said in a calmer voice:
"But how will I become stronger if I always follow orders?"
Levi took a step closer to him.
"You learn when to follow orders and when to make your own decisions. There's a difference."
Eren looked at him silently, as if he were thinking about his words.
Then he said:
"One day... I will prove to you that I am capable of relying on myself."
Levi gave him a sharp look, then turned and headed towards the door.
"I don't care if you prove anything to me." Erin paused for a moment.
Levi added, without turning to look at him:
"Just stay alive until that day."
Silence fell once more.
Eren looked at his back and said quietly:
"Is... this your way of saying you trust me?"
Levi stopped at the door. "Don't make me repeat myself." A slight smile appeared on Eren's face.
"Then I will consider it as such."
Levi opened the door and said coldly:
"Do as you please."
Before he left, Erin turned to him again.
"Levi."
"What now?"
"Thanks."
Silence reigned for a few seconds, then Levi left the room without answering.
As for Irene, he remained standing in his place, looking towards the closed door.
