It is a sequel to Milky Highway (ミルキー☆ハイウェイ, Mirukī Haiwei; stylized as Milky☆Highway), a 2022 original net animation also created by Kameyama. The series aired from July to September 2025, simulcast on television and YouTube. A theatrical edition of the series was released in February 2026. *Premise* : Arrested for violating space traffic laws, Chiharu, a genetically modified "superhuman," and Makina, a cyborg, are sentenced to community service along with four other convicts aboard the Milky Way Metro, a train used for interplanetary travel. *Premise:***Six “misfits” (a mix of enhanced humans and cyborgs) are sentenced to community service cleaning the interstellar train “Milky☆Subway”; during the task, the train goes out of control, unleashing a series of science fiction adventures/comedies. *
Scenario; *
Brief Premise *
The Milky☆Subway—an old interstellar community service train—has suffered a “failure” in its navigation system and is stuck on an interplanetary route with no apparent course or destination, simply wandering through outer space without stopping.
Synopsis
The superhuman Chiharu and the cyborg Makina were arrested for violating space traffic laws. They find themselves stuck with a group of misfits who were detained around the same time: Akane and Kanata, the superhuman couple; and Kurt and Max, their cyborg friends. Ryoko, the police officer, sentenced them to clean the interplanetary train, the so-called "Milky☆Subway," as community service. It should have been a simple job, until the train suddenly blasts off into deep space.
The crew panics as chaos erupts on board!
Without purpose! Without principle! Without sense! A space train spectacle like no other, driven solely by pure impulse!
Premise
Arrested for violating space traffic laws, Chiharu, a genetically modified "superhuman," and Makina, a cyborg, are sentenced to community service along with four other convicts aboard the Milky Way Metro, a train used for interplanetary travel. When the train suddenly activates, the group must quickly band together to resolve the situation.
Setting
Regarding the setting, it's described as "both futuristic and retro," noting that "we can believe the characters have lived, worked, and traveled in this world their entire lives and consider it 'normal,'" and adding that the use of "Gingakei made Tonde Ike!" as the main theme "brings an authentic Showa-era feel to this Reiwa-era production." The reviewer also praised the "naturalness" of the dialogue, writing that the main characters "sound like real people, less bound by the conventions of anime dubbing."

United Stars of Barnadia (バルナディア合星連邦, Barunadia Gassei Renpō ? ), abbreviated as USB, is the main interstellar federal sovereign state in which the entire role-playing game takes place.
Overview:
The Barnadia universe exists within a planetary system located approximately 5.98 light-years from Earth. Humans achieved space travel in the 1960s, and since then, a portion of the population has been secretly colonizing the Barnadia system. Most people on Earth are unaware of its existence.
Due to a logistical lag of approximately 20 years with respect to Earth, the culture and information originating from Earth within the United Stars of Barnadia are quite ancient.

Makina Kurusu
Name: Makina Kurusu
Japanese: 来栖真希奈
Romaji: Kurusu Makina
Gender: Female ♀
Species: Human (formerly) Cyborg (currently)
Birthday: April 11
Age: 64 (current years) 23 (Earth years)
Relatives: Shun'ichiro Kurusu (Father), Maria Kurusu (Mother)
Makina Kurusu (来くる栖す真ま希き奈な) is one of the main protagonists of Milky☆Subway: The Galactic Limited Express. Along with her childhood friend, Chiharu Kujo, she is arrested after a reckless speeding incident and sentenced to perform community service aboard the Milky☆Subway.
Makina's Appearance
Makina Kurusu is a young cyborg of average height with black hair styled in two pigtails. The tips of her pigtails are dyed magenta, while the strands framing her face and the ends of her bangs are dyed light blue. Her most striking facial feature is her bright turquoise holographic face, which functions as a monitor capable of displaying different expressions, symbols, and images. She has large, droopy eyes with white irises and pupils that fade from blue at the top to pink at the bottom. Three small eyelashes extend from the outer lower corner of each eye, and markings are visible on her cheeks. Instead of normal ears, she has mechanical ear-like appendages on the sides of her head. Her neck and the lower part of her face are entirely mechanical, while the rest of her body is made of smooth, ivory-colored metal. Visible joints can be seen in her neck, waist, fingers, hands, and knees.
Makina usually wears a purple varsity jacket with beige sleeves over a yellow crop top. The top is tied in the front, revealing her midriff, and has the words "Girl Machine Interface" written in orange. The jacket has yellow and black striped cuffs, a matching collar and hem, white pockets, and a row of silver snap buttons down the front. The letters "PN" are written in yellow on the left side, while "Singularity" is written in yellow on the right with a yellow line underneath. On the back is an image of a sheep with yellow wool surrounded by yellow lightning bolts, with the words "Dreaming 06" written above it in cursive and "E.SHEEP" written below in capital letters. The number "52" is written in yellow on the left sleeve. She also wears denim shorts with a round buckle, pink knee-high socks, and black sneakers with laces and white soles.
Makina's Personality
Makina Kurusu is an impulsive and strong-willed young woman with a rude and stereotypical juvenile delinquent attitude. Due to her cynical view of people, she tends to think the worst of others and is quick to resort to violence when she feels threatened, annoyed, or sees someone mistreating her friends. She often refers to troublesome or unreliable people as "flying kicks," believing that Chiharu has a habit of attracting them, despite Ryoko pointing out that her long history of assault convictions makes her no different. Furthermore, she often justifies her actions even when they create more problems than they solve, which has earned her multiple assault convictions and a reputation as aggressive and confrontational.
Much of Makina's behavior is driven by instinct rather than reflection, and she has little patience with people she dislikes, responding to arguments with threats or physical violence instead of trying to reason with them. Early in the story, she shows little concern for those outside her inner circle and tends to downplay the consequences of her actions, preferring to blame others rather than admit her mistakes, as demonstrated after her and Chiharu's arrest, when Makina blames Chiharu for suggesting the trip, despite being the one driving. She can also be stubborn and quick to judge others based on first impressions, and ironically, many of the reckless traits she criticizes in others are traits she exhibits herself. She rarely apologizes for her actions, convinced that she is justified when acting to protect Chiharu, though she eventually learns to admit her mistakes.
Makina's Personality (Part Two)
Despite this, Makina is deeply loyal to the people she cares about, especially Chiharu. The two have been inseparable since childhood, and Makina naturally assumes the role of protector. Many of her past run-ins with the law stemmed from taking down those who had wronged Chiharu, and she never hesitates to put herself in danger if it means keeping her friend safe. While she often complains or comes across as harsh, Makina has a genuinely caring side and is always willing to help those she considers important. Fortunately, she gradually stops thinking negatively about everyone, becomes more tolerant of others, and eventually comes to see the other delinquents as her friends.
As a cyborg and the daughter of the owner of Titan Industries, Makina possesses extensive knowledge of technology and machinery. She has a particular passion for engineering and becomes noticeably more talkative when the topic comes up, despite usually appearing bored or uninterested. Her interest in technology borders on obsession, and she has a deep understanding of machines and their history, particularly those developed by Titan Industries. Although she appears to be a common criminal, she comes from a wealthy family, though she rarely shows it and prefers a quiet life. She also enjoys more conventional pastimes, such as playing video games and listening to music, especially songs by her favorite singer, Minami Minase, of whom she is a devoted fan.
Makina's Powers and Abilities
Durability: Because she is a cyborg, Makina possesses immense durability.
Immense strength; Because he is a cyborg, Makina also possesses immense strength.
Chiharu Kujo

Romaji: Kujo Chiharu

Chiharu Kujo's appearance
Chiharu Kujo is a young superhuman of average height with short, reddish-brown hair cut to jaw length. She has straight bangs that frame her face and large, reddish-brown eyes. Like all superhumans, she has pink skin, a pair of pink, antenna-like protrusions extending from the top of her head, and pointed ears.
Chiharu usually wears a loose-fitting, off-the-shoulder, long-sleeved white hoodie that reaches her upper thighs. The hoodie features two inverted triangles, one purple and one light green, along with the phrase "Ghost In The Snail Shell" written in cursive with a pink line underneath. Underneath the hoodie, she wears a purple sleeveless top with visible straps. She also wears tights a shade darker than her skin tone, lime green leg warmers that bunch up at the bottom of her legs, and purple platform shoes with thick white soles and white laces. Sometimes she wears the blue Popo Puppy brooch that Ryoko gave her.
Chiharu Kujo's Personality
Chiharu Kujo is a cheerful, kind, and free-spirited young woman who maintains a positive attitude even in difficult situations.
Akane daidoji
Name: Akane daidoji
Japanese: 大道寺朱音
Romaji: Daidōji Akane
Alias(s): Boss (by Kanata)
Gender: Female ♀
Species: Superhuman
Birthday: July 16
Age: 70 (current years), 25 (Earth years)
Akane Daidoji (, Daidōji Akane?) 大だい道どう寺じ朱あか音ね is one of the criminals on the train, along with Kanata, Makina, Chiharu, Kurt and Max. She is the leader of the Galaxy Spirits motorcycle gang (ギャラクシースピリッツ, Gyarakushī Supirittsu?).
Akane Daidoji's Appearance
Akane is a tall, red-skinned human. She has pale skin and pointed ears like an elf, as well as two antennae on the top of her head; however, she is missing her left antenna, likely severed during a fight. She has large green eyes, a small nose, and small lips. In her left ear, she wears two small black hoop earrings. In her right ear, she wears a pendant from a limited-edition Minimari keychain. She has long, dark brown, almost black hair with straight bangs.
Akane wears a large black coat with various patches on the front. Underneath the coat, she wears a cropped T-shirt with some kind of logo and a belt holding up her wide-legged pants.
Akane Daidoji's Personality
Although initially distant, Akane quickly befriends Makina after discovering they both enjoy the same game or program (it's not specified which, but they both own limited-edition merchandise). She also demonstrates a deep affection for Kanata; when he's stunned, she rushes to his aid, and after getting locked in the bathroom, she immediately goes to find him, worried that Max and Kurt might take advantage of his short stature to hurt him.
Akane Daidoji's Relationship
Kanata: Throughout the series/movie, Akane is shown to have a great affection for Kanata, almost like a brother, or perhaps with a maternal affection. Although Akane admits that Kanata is practically useless to the team, she affectionately uses an analogy with tempura shrimp, stating that while they don't need him, she enjoys his company. After getting trapped in the bathroom, Akane immediately runs to find him, worried that Kurt and Max were bullying or hitting him, and upon seeing them surrounding him, she pins them against the wall in a threatening manner.
Kanata Iwao
Name: Kanata Iwao
Japanese: 岩男鉄多
Romaji: Iwao Kanata

Kanata Iwao (Iwao Kanata?) 岩いわ男お鉄かな多た is a supporting character in Milky☆Subway: The Galactic Limited Express.
Kanata is a member of the space biker gang Galaxy Spirits and acts as the right-hand man (koshiginchaku) of its second-generation leader, Akane Daidoji. After he and Akane are arrested for reckless speeding, they are both sentenced to perform community service aboard the Milky☆Subway.
Kanata Iwao's appearance
Kanata Iwao is a slender young man of average height with reddish-brown hair combed back and brown eyes. Like all Superhumans, he has pink skin, a pair of pink, antenna-like protrusions extending from the top of his head, and pointed ears.
Kanata usually wears a short, sleeveless purple T-shirt with black trim around the neckline, armholes, and hem. On the front of the shirt is a white skull emblem with two antennae against a background of three diagonal pink stripes. Below the emblem is the text "RURA-NISHIMA" in white, along with a barcode design and the small Japanese text "にしまるら" (Kawasaki). On the back of the shirt is the large white kanji "川崎" (Kawasaki) over the same three diagonal pink stripes, with the text "それは悪いです" written vertically next to it.
He also wears loose-fitting purple cargo pants with an elastic waistband, two large utility pockets, and a horizontal zippered pocket. On his left thigh, the text 「これは悪い冗談です」 ("This is a bad joke") is written vertically, while a rectangular patch on the upper thigh reads "RURA-NISHIMA," with 「にしまるら」 and a barcode printed underneath. He also wears chunky, purplish-gray sneakers with light brown soles and light purple accents.
Kurt Cramer
Name: Kurt Cramer
Japanese: カート・クレイマー
Romaji: Kāto Kureimā
Gender: Male ♂
Species: Cyborg
Birthday: December 27
Age: 76 (current years), 27 (Earth years)
Kurt Fitzgerald Cramer ( , Kāto Fittsujerarudo Kureimā ? ) Kurtカート Fitzgeraldふいぃっつじぇらるど Cramerクレイマー is a supporting character in Milky☆Subway: The Galactic Limited Express.
Along with Max MacCallister, he works for Dawes & Smith Security Services (DS Security), a private security firm suspected of involvement in criminal activity. They are both arrested for illegally smuggling sugar and sentenced to community service aboard the Milky☆Subway.
Kurt Cramer's appearance:
Kurt has very broad shoulders, a cybernetic mouth, and cybernetic arms. It is implied that he possesses other human parts, as he is seen using the bathroom. He has short, dark brown, almost black hair parted in the middle, large, dark eyes, and a small nose. His mouth is a robotic mechanism that lights up when he speaks. His cybernetic parts are made of two different colors of metal: black and a medium gray.
Kurt is wearing a red vest with white lettering that says "Now I have mechanic's arms".
Kurt Cramer's background:
Max and Kurt work at Dawes & Smith Security Service, also known as DS Security. DS Security is a private company believed to be involved in various crimes, including the illegal distribution of sugar, although no conclusive evidence has yet been found. The company's president, Jane Dawes, is a complete mystery; absolutely nothing is known about her. Other members include Alice Santorini, an expert in mine and explosives handling, and Jason Kruger, a burly fellow. Before working for DS Security, Max and Kurt worked in the public sector; however, they claim it was a thankless job and they quit, which led them to become very cruel to others, convinced that no one deserves help unless they receive a salary.
Max MacCallister
Name: Max MacCallister
Japanese: マックス・マカリスタ
Romaji: Makkusu Makarisuta
Gender: Male ♂
Species: Cyborg
Birthday: April 2nd

Max O'Donald MacCallister ( , Makkusu Odonarudo Makarisitā ? ) Máximoマックス O'Donaldどなるど McCallisterマカリスター [ 3 ] is a supporting character in Milky☆Subway: The Galactic Limited Express.
Along with Kurt Cramer, he works for Dawes & Smith Security Services (DS Security), a private security company believed to be involved in criminal activities. Both are arrested for illegally smuggling sugar and sentenced to community service aboard the Milky☆Subway.
Max MacCallister's appearance:
Max has a digital face and arms, and although it's not specified where, his legs (ankles) are shown to be, at the very least, human flesh. His face is a dark screen with two greenish-yellow ovals representing his eyes; it lights up when he speaks. A symbol is also visible on his forehead, though it's not clearly discernible. Max's hair is short and dark purplish-brown. His bangs fall over his forehead and reach the nape of his neck. His arms, neck, and part of his face are made of the same lightweight, silvery material.
He's wearing a metallic blue and gold jacket, inspired by 80s jumpsuits. The main body is light blue, with pockets, a zipper, and gold details on the sleeves. Max is wearing dark blue tracksuit bottoms with cuffs. He doesn't appear to be wearing ankle socks, or perhaps he's not wearing any socks at all. He's wearing all-black and gray trainers.
Max MacCallister's Personality
Although Max is rude, stating that he doesn't care about people and even ignoring others when they need help—saying he has plenty of ways to escape if necessary—this quickly changes when Chiharu thanks him and Kurt for stopping the robot. After this, Max is somewhat kind, even praising Kanata.
Max is incredibly intelligent when it comes to machines, and he knows how to operate them perfectly.
Before becoming a cyborg, Max was very narcissistic and had complete confidence in his appearance.
Max MacCallister's Background
Although he was very self-confident, Max had a deep phobia and revulsion toward aging, and after a recruiter assured him that he wouldn't age if he became a cyborg, Max enlisted in the army. During his military service, he underwent the mechanization process, a common practice in the armed forces.
Max and Kurt's Occupation
Max and Kurt work at Dawes & Smith Security Service, also known as DS Security. DS Security is a private company believed to be involved in various crimes, including the illegal distribution of sugar, although no conclusive evidence has yet been found. The company president, Jane Dawes, is a complete mystery; absolutely nothing is known about her. Other members include Alice Santorini, an expert in mine and explosives, and Jason Kruger, a burly man.
Before working for DS Security, Max and Kurt worked in the public sector; however, they later claimed it was a thankless job and left. It was then that they became very cruel to others, believing that no one deserves support unless they are paid.
