DIO awoke after a 100-year slumber by stealing the body of Jotaro's grandfather, Jonathan. This awakening caused the Joestar descendants to develop Stands. Holly lacks the mental strength to control her Stand, which is consuming her. She only has 50 days to live if DIO isn't defeated.
Jotaro travels across Asia with his group (Joseph, Avdol, Kakyoin, Polnareff, and the dog Iggy). DIO is hiding in Cairo, Egypt, and he sends dozens of assassins (Stand users) to stop Jotaro before he arrives.
Upon arriving in Cairo, Jotaro faces DIO in a legendary duel. It is during this fight that he discovers his Stand, Star Platinum, possesses the same power as DIO's: the ability to stop time. Thanks to this, Jotaro manages to defeat DIO permanently and save his mother from a distance!

His catchphrase is "Yare Yare Daze", which can be translated as "Go on then" or "What a pain", expressing his constant exasperation with problems.

He is an extremely tall (1.95 m) and muscular teenager (and later adult), displaying an athletic build and a face with hard, severe features.
