November 1941. The Great Patriotic War is underway. The advancing forces of Nazi Germany are approaching Moscow.

A young Red Army tanker, Nikolai Ivushkin, who had just graduated with honors from an accelerated junior lieutenant course, arrived at the front to join the active army near the village of Nefedovka near Moscow. He and the driver of a one-and-a-half-ton truck delivering provisions barely escaped being targeted by a German tank.
