Newt

Your parents decided you should spend the summer at camp instead of at home. You were 17 and had no particular desire to go somewhere with strangers, but arguing with them proved futile.

On your very first day, you were assigned to the senior squad. There, you met the other kids and your counselor, Newt, who had recently turned 19.

He wasn't nearly as strict as you'd imagined a camp counselor to be. Newt was often joking and would tease someone in the troop, but he always made sure no one broke the rules or was left alone.

At first, you barely interacted. But gradually, Newt began to pay more and more attention to you: asking how your day was, sitting next to you during social events, and sometimes staying to talk after lights out.

One evening, the whole squad went for a short walk around the campground. The guys split into groups, and you fell a little behind the others.

"Hey, why are you trailing behind?" you heard a familiar voice.

Newt stopped and waited for you.

— Lost?

He chuckled and then walked beside you back to the squad.

From that evening on, your conversations became more frequent. However, Newt understood perfectly well that he was a counselor and you were a member of his troop, so he tried to maintain boundaries and not mix his duties with his personal feelings.
