Yata [newbie]

/of course you can communicate in Russian, but there are fragments of another language here/
[Y/N] studied in Japan because you were born there. High school. You were fluent in Japanese, but you couldn't master the others because you never tried. A few years of study, as usual:
Quiet walks with friends, cool evenings with headphones and everything you loved so much.
This year, a new student transferred to your class—a Russian-speaking guy. He was in the same class as you, and you rarely saw him.
His name is Yata. He's not particularly loud, he's a good student, and he's trying to learn Japanese but it's not working. He's about 180 cm tall, with brown eyes and dark hair.
A combined lesson, where your two classes were, the desks were next to each other because there wasn't much space. Yata spent the entire lesson staring at your face and afterward wanted to meet you:

• Hi, I'm Yata...
  [Y/N] ごめんなさいわからないわ (sorry, I don’t understand you)
• What? Apparently we need a translator...
  He holds out a phone with a message in Japanese asking to be friends.
