Sanemi Shinazugawa uses the Breath of Wind (Kaze no Kokyu), one of the five main styles. This style mimics powerful air currents and vortices, and its techniques emphasize offensive attacks using spinning movements to increase reach.

Origin: Breath of Wind is a branch of Breath of Sun. It was developed by Yoriichi Tsugikuni, a student who, lacking his master's innate strength, developed a technique adapted to his strengths and weaknesses.

Visualization. Practitioners of this style imagine themselves creating and manipulating wind, especially visualizing green wind.

Connections to fencing. The style is strongly reminiscent of the real-life Jigen-ryu style, which emphasizes the first decisive strike from a high stance.

Attack Formats. Wind Breath has several known forms, each featuring a unique series of attacks. For example:

The first style (Sand Vortex Strike) is a forward dash with a series of strikes that create a horizontal cyclone.

The second style (Clearing Wind Claws) is four consecutive vertical strikes that resemble claws.

Sanemi Shinazugawa's Traits
Sanemi has studied and mastered the Breath of Wind since a young age.
He is considered one of the most powerful users of this style in history, surpassing its original creator and developing many new forms for it.
His Nichirin katana is green and has a unique jagged pattern engraved on the blade, resembling a jaw.
Sanemi also possesses the Demon Slayer's Mark, a green windmill-shaped mark on her right cheek.

Thanks to his fighting style and physical training, Sanemi became the Wind Pillar (Hashira).

Kyogo Shinazugawa—father (deceased). A tyrannical man who constantly beat his wife and children. After his death, Sanemi and his younger brother Genya vowed to always protect the remaining family.

Shizu Shinazugawa – mother (deceased). She was once transformed into a demon, attacked her children, and seriously injured them. To save the others, Sanemi had to rescue her mother from the house, where she was burned to death by the sun.

Genya Shinazugawa – younger brother (alive). After their father's death, Sanemi and Genya became the family's rock. However, after their demon mother's attack, Genya accused Sanemi of murdering her, leading to their estrangement. Despite his outward indifference and even cruelty, Sanemi deeply cared for his brother and, deep down, wanted him to leave the military and live a peaceful life.

After the demon mother attacked his children, Sanemi was forced to kill her to save the others. This event left him with deep psychological trauma and shaped his hatred of demons.

Thus, the Sanemi family is a symbol of resilience in the face of adversity, and the complex relationships between the siblings highlight the themes of redemption and brotherly love.

Sanemi wears the standard Demon Slayer Corps uniform. In the manga, it is black, while in the anime, it is dark green. The jacket has a buttoned collar and long sleeves, with gold buttons and a pocket on the left chest. The kanji for "destroy" (滅) is engraved on the back of the jacket. Underneath the jacket is a white, long-sleeved tank top with a stand-up collar. The jacket and tank top are often left almost completely unbuttoned, revealing her chest and toned abs (only the bottom button is buttoned). The sleeves of the jacket and tank top are rolled up to the elbows.
Over this, he wears a white, long-sleeved haori with the kanji for "kill" (殺) engraved on the back. For his feet, he wears white buckled ankle straps instead of the traditional kyahan, dark green tabi socks, and white zori sandals with green straps.

Sanemi is a tall, very muscular young man with fair skin. His hair is long, spiky, tousled, and silvery-white. At some point in the story, he cuts it shorter, leaving two large strands on the left and middle of his face.
He has large, almond-shaped eyes with long eyelashes. His irises are small, pale purple, and have dark swirls. When Sanemi is angry, his eyes become bloodshot. Dark circles under his eyes give him a haggard and worried appearance.
Sanemi's body is covered with numerous scars. Among them:
a large, jagged scar running across the upper right side of the forehead;
An X-shaped scar at the right temple, extending down through the eyebrow;
a jagged scar across his right cheekbone and the bridge of his nose (received as a child when he was attacked by his transformed mother);
An X-shaped scar on the chest and a large diagonal scar across the abdomen;
four small scars on both hands and forearms (received in previous battles with demons).

It is truly contradictory: behind the outward harshness and rudeness lies a deep trauma and the capacity for sincere feelings.

Reasons for this nature
This complex personality is a direct consequence of a tragic past. Sanemi was the eldest son in a family where his father was abusive to his wife and children. After his father's death, he and his younger brother, Genya, took on the care of their mother and the other children. One day, their mother returned as a demon, attacked her children, and seriously injured them. Sanemi was forced to stop her to protect the others. Later, their mother was sunburned, and Genya accused his brother of murder. These events left Sanemi with severe psychological trauma: he lost his sense of color, began to perceive everything in black and white, and even developed suicidal tendencies. To numb the pain, he began hunting demons alone.

A hidden concern for his brother. His harsh treatment of Genya isn't an expression of hatred, but an attempt to protect his only remaining family member from danger. When Genya joins the Demon Slayers, Sanemi hurls insults at him, but Tanjiro sees that brotherly love lives on.

Sanemi's character is thus a complex blend of trauma, bitterness, and the capacity for love and remorse. His story demonstrates how pain and loss can both break a person and awaken hidden depths within them.
