The crux of the problem: the Dreemurr family appears as shadowy/dark blue figures (almost like shadows of goats with blue eyes and mouths).
They store positive energy in some kind of spherical object and prevent it from spreading.
An atmosphere of oppressive power mixed with profound sadness and genuine isolation.
Summary of the general climate of the Underground in Negatale
Everything is visually "negative" (cold and dark colors).
Predominant emotions: sadness, apathy, anxiety, depression, and fake smiles.
It's not as aggressively "kill or be killed" as Underfell — it's more psychological and depressing.
Frisk arrives and tries to restore positive emotions to the monsters.

Ruins (The Ruins)
A cold, dark, and bluish-gray environment.
An atmosphere of isolation and emotional abandonment.
The puzzles and interactions have a heavier, more melancholic tone.
Toriel (more somber/dark and with negative traits) lives here. In some versions of the lore, she can be more dangerous or manipulative (e.g., poisoned pie in certain interpretations).
A general feeling of "nobody is really okay here".
Snowdin (Nevada)
Covered in snow, but with an atmosphere that was more depressing and emotionally cold than physically so.
Shades of ice blue and gray predominate.
Grillby is made of ice (instead of fire) and has a cold, rude personality and is uninterested in his own bar.
Sans and Papyrus live here. Sans is extremely melancholic, anxious, and very attached to Frisk (he sees Frisk as a kind of "emotional shield" or source of security). Papyrus tries to remain optimistic, but fails and becomes frustrated/sad.
The general atmosphere is one of loneliness and a forced attempt at normalcy.
Waterfall
A humid, dark, and melancholic environment, with Echo Flowers that echo sad or frightened thoughts.
The dark, somber blue aesthetic is even stronger here.
Feelings of emotional heaviness and isolation.
Places like Napstablook's house and the statue of Asriel have a more desolate atmosphere.
Hotland + CORE
It remains warm, but visually darker and more "negative" (blues and blacks mixed with the original orange/red).
Alphys is even more depressed, insecure, and stutters (in some descriptions she has gills, suggesting aquatic traits).
Mettaton and the live show environment have a rather empty or forced tone.
The CORE retains its technological function, but with a more oppressive and lifeless atmosphere.

Other relevant characters
Muffet: Female, ~17 years old. Baker of the royal family (spider). Dark skin, white twin-tails with blue ribbons. Greedy, widowed in some accounts; in love with Asriel.
Mettaton: Depressed appearance (screen flashing blue/black, arms drooping). More calculating/strategic; has difficulty with EX form.
Grillby: Masculine. Made of ice (not fire), cold-hearted, rude, and hating his own job/restaurant.
Gaster: Father of Sans and Papyrus (died falling into the Core when they were children).
Napstablook: A more inverted/positive personality compared to the original; in some accounts, he becomes a real DJ.
Flowey: Not very detailed in primary sources.

Undyne
Gender: Female (she/her).
Characteristics: Long blue hair in a ponytail, more like a muscular lizard with a long tail (less fish-like).
Personality: Somewhat depressed/lazy, with a calmer and more tolerant temperament than the original. Likes Alphys. Can live with the skeleton siblings.

Alphys
Gender: Female (she/her).
Characteristics: Royal scientist. Has gills (more aquatic/axolotl or fish-like appearance). Sister of Monster Kid.
Personality: Still shy and stuttering, but even more depressed. Conducts experiments under Asgore's orders. Likes Undyne.

Asgore
Gender: Masculine (he/him).
Characteristics: King of the Underground, broken right horn, dark blue appearance.
Personality: Holds the positive energy in the castle for the family. More antagonistic and focused on maintaining the negative status quo. Less friendly than the original version. 5f6b2f

Toriel
Gender: Female (she/her).
Characteristics: Queen, a dark blue figure. Lives with Asgore, Asriel, Chara, and sometimes Muffet.
Personality: Appears calm, maternal, and gentle at first, but is manipulative. Offers poisoned blueberry/blackberry pies and watches the victims suffer with a warm smile. Less overtly violent than Asgore.

Asriel
Gender: Masculine (he/him).
Characteristics: Prince, approximately 15 years old. Dark blue/navy complexion (like the Dreemurr family).
Personality: Educated and elegant like royalty, but cold and cruel to those outside the family. Has romantic feelings for Muffet (tsundere in some accounts).

Chara
Gender: Male (he/him; explicitly defined as male in this AU).
Characteristics: Approximately 15 years old. Not human: a demon created by the dark magic of Asgore and Toriel. Lives with the royal family. Long hair covering one eye, skull piercing, favorite weapon is a butcher knife (with holes). Likes white chocolate with blueberries.
Personality: Obsessive Yandere with a love for Sans ("Sansy"), extremely jealous of Frisk (may go so far as to kill/dismember them). Cruel and destructive towards those who are not from the royal family, but pretends to be a "good boy" in front of Asgore. Darkly elegant. At the end of certain routes, may transform into more bestial forms.

Papyrus
Gender: Masculine (he/him).
Characteristics: Skeleton, Sans' brother. Still uses the "battle body," but the scarf is in front (it can fly into his face with the wind, hindering his vision).
Personality: Still relatively energetic and positive (one of the least negative in the AU), concerned about Sans' emotional state. Tries to cheer him up by cooking (specialty: macaroni and cheese) and making jokes. Maintains the bond.

Sans
Gender: Masculine (he/him).
Characteristics: Skeleton, approximately 15-16 years old. Blue/gray sweatshirt with a minus sign (-) in the center, flip-flops. Works at Grillby's (only trash, due to being underage). Has a Negative form (extreme rage/depression): yellow/light gray colors, minus sign around the eyes, much more dangerous and uses magic in the original style.
Personality: Extremely shy, melancholic, depressed, and clingy (especially after the death of his father, Gaster). Rarely makes jokes. Sees Frisk as "security/shield" and feels happier/safer around her; if Frisk dies, he falls into a deep depression and seeks revenge. He is afraid of Chara (even though Chara loves him). Emotionally dependent on Frisk. Likes strawberry syrup.

Frisk
Gender: They/them (non-binary/agender; feminine).
Characteristics: Human, approximately 15 years old. Wearing a blue and black striped shirt, with a bandage on their left cheek. Their determination is weaker than in the original, but still strong enough to persevere.
Personality: Shy, friendly (especially with Sans), a little less assertive. Grew up in poor conditions on the surface. Is pushed into the Underground by Chara. Develops a strong bond (and romance) with Sans; tries to help monsters feel positive emotions. Has alternate forms in certain routes (such as Spirit or Undead).
