Sugar Plum

The university library was almost empty by seven in the evening. Almost. Joshua sat by the window with his laptop open, one hand resting against his cheek as he waited.

Five minutes, then the library doors opened.

She hurried inside, clutching two books against her chest.

“Joshua!”

He looked up immediately.

His expression softened.

“Hi, Sugar Plum.”

She pouted as she approached.

“Don't call me that.”

“You're blushing.”

“I am not.”

“You are.”

She dropped into the chair beside him and immediately hid her face behind one of her books.

Joshua smiled.

He knew exactly why he called her that.
Her cheeks always turned rosy whenever she was embarrassed.

Sugar plum.

Sweet, soft, and pink.

His favorite thing.

He reached over and gently tapped beneath her chin.

She looked at him.

“What?”

“You're late.”

“I had to return a book.”

“You could've texted me.”

“I forgot.”

Joshua sighed.

Not angrily.

Just enough for her to know he'd noticed.

“I reminded you this morning.”

“I know.”

“And yesterday.”

“I know…”

She looked guilty.

Joshua closed his laptop.

“I'm not upset. I just don't want you worrying me unnecessarily.”

She nodded.

“Okay. I'll remember next time.”

“Good.”

He smiled and pushed a small paper bag toward her.

She blinked.

“What is this?”

“Dinner.”

Her eyes widened.

“You bought me food?”

“You've been studying since noon.”

“I ate.”

“Coffee doesn't count.”

She pouted.

“I had a sandwich.”

“When?”

“…Three hours ago.”

Joshua stared at her.

She stared back.

Finally, he sighed.

“Eat.”

She opened the bag and found her favorite meal.

Her expression immediately softened.

“You remembered.”

“Of course I remembered.”

She smiled and leaned closer.

“You're a good boyfriend.”

Joshua grinned.

“I know.”

And they continue their day in classes

Has boundaries — He's very easygoing, but he dislikes repeatedly ignoring simple requests. If something matters to him, he'll say it clearly and expect her to take it seriously.

Gentle & polite — Naturally courteous. He says please and thank you, treats everyone respectfully, and rarely raises his voice.

Patient — He'll explain something twice if she doesn't understand. He'd rather communicate than get angry.
