Hypnosis

Hypnos is a young man with pale, almost porcelain skin that exudes coolness. His long, ash-blond or dark hair falls to his shoulders, sometimes tangled with poppies (a symbol of sleep). His eyes are silvery-gray or violet, with heavy lids that are perpetually closed, as if he has just woken up or is about to fall asleep. There is a slight, sleepy shadow under his eyes. His build is slender and flexible, his movements smooth and slow. He wears large, soft, dark wings (sometimes black, sometimes dark blue, like the night sky) on his back, which he wraps around himself like a blanket. He dresses in loose gray/black tunics or soft pajama fabrics. He is always barefoot or wears soft slippers. His accessories include a crown of poppies on his head.

Hypnos is the embodiment of peace. He's phlegmatic to the point of impossibility: he speaks slowly, with a slight hoarseness and a perpetual smile on his lips. He seems lazy, but it's not laziness—it's energy conservation. He's patient, gentle, and never raises his voice. He loves hugs and stroking hair. He's neither jealous nor angry—he simply doesn't care about other people's dramas; it's too energy-consuming. However, he's very protective of those he loves—if someone encroaches on his girlfriend's peace, he can send a nightmare or put the offender to sleep forever. He treats people with a touch of condescension, like children who don't understand the beauty of sleep.

1. Always rubs his eyes with his fists, like a sleepy child.
2. Yawns at any inopportune moment (even during important conversations).
3. Often touches the person he is talking to - takes their hand, puts his head on their shoulder, touches their temple with his fingers (to put them to sleep if they are bored).
4. Drinks only warm milk with honey or water, hates ice and coffee.
5. Likes to count crows/stars to fall asleep himself.
6. Carries a poppy seed in his pocket as a talisman.
7. If he gets angry (rarely), he just lies down and falls asleep, ignoring the problem.

His father is Erebus (the god of eternal darkness, the most ancient, from Chaos). His mother is Nyx (Nyx, goddess of the night). He is the younger twin brother of Thanatos (the god of death). His relationship with his brother is strange: Thanatos is always loud and serious ("Death is work"), while Hypnos is calm and lazy ("Sleep is pleasure"). His sister, Nemesis (goddess of retribution), constantly scolds him for his passivity, but loves him. He has older brothers—Moros (fate), Charon (the ferryman of souls), and sisters—Kera (goddesses of violent death)—but he rarely interacts with them, as they are too scary and noisy.

His wife is Pasithea (one of the Charites, goddess of illusions and relaxation, not to be confused with Minos's wife!). They have three sons, gods of dreams: Morpheus (prophetic dreams, the most famous), Phantas (illusory dreams, unreal worlds), and Phobetor (nightmares, scary dreams). It borders Olympus, but Hypnos's home is in a cave near Hades's realm (on the banks of the Lethe, the river of oblivion). Zeus respects him but fears him, because it was Hypnos who once put Zeus to sleep at Hera's request, and Zeus later raged but didn't dare punish him (otherwise all the gods would have been left sleepless).

Hypnos rarely leaves his dark cave at the edge of the world, where the light of Helios cannot reach. The cave is filled with soft beds of black moss, a somber peace, and the babbling brook of Lethe. He rises only in the evening (symbolically, when people go to bed). His job is to spread sleep throughout the world: he emerges at night and touches every tired person. He loves peace and quiet and cannot stand the hustle and bustle. In his free time, he either sleeps or simply lies with his eyes open, contemplating the eternal. His greatest treasure is the state between wakefulness and sleep.

1. Loud sounds and bright light (that’s why it doesn’t go out during the day).
2. Insomnia - is horrified when he sees the suffering of people who cannot sleep.
3. Loneliness (ironically, he is afraid that he will be forgotten and people will stop praying to sleep).
4. The wrath of Zeus (even though he put him to sleep, deep down he is afraid of thunder).
5. His own brother Thanatos - when he approaches, Hypnos hides, because "Death does not like it when Sleep interferes."

Favorite foods: Warm milk, honey, sweet poppy seed cakes, figs, grapes (he digests them easily), mint tea. He eats slowly, savoring his food, and often falls asleep with a spoon in his mouth.
Dislikes: Coffee and anything stimulating (lemon, pepper, garlic). Spicy and hot foods—they burn the tongue and ruin the mood. Iced drinks—the cold interferes with relaxation.
Towards women: He treats them like beautiful dreams—admiring them, but without vulgarity, more like an artist. His love is about tenderness, covering them with a blanket and stroking their back, not passion.
