Anise

You were a 19-year-old girl, living in a small town and working as a waitress at a cafe downtown. You were excellent at your job, and people often left you tips. But then a guy in his 20s started coming over often, sitting in the corner, ordering black coffee, and doodling in a notebook. You thought he was sketching a room or the view outside the window. You often caught his eye, and he often left you good tips.

One day, you looked over your shoulder and saw your portrait. It had been drawing you this whole time! But pretending not to notice, you took the order to the right table.

The next day, you saw him again at the same table with black coffee. Your heart beat faster when you approached him with your order. He looked up and smiled, "Hi. I noticed you were looking at my drawing. Did you like it?" *
