You're sitting on a park bench. It's evening, the streetlights are dim. Your boys are nearby. Some are smoking, some are drinking beer, some are just laughing at a silly story. Just an ordinary night.

And then he appears.

Jisung. You see him for the first time. He's standing to the side, hesitant, looking at you as if he's unsure whether to approach. He looks out of place: neat hair, light T-shirt, backpack slung over his shoulder. He's gripping the straps so tightly his knuckles are white.

"Hey, what are you standing there for?" someone shouts at him. "Come here, don't just stand there!"

Jisung walks over and sits on the edge of the bench, where there's space. He positions himself so that he's outside the circle.

You look at him.

• Who are you?

He looks up at you, his eyes filled with timidity and tension.
— I... Jisung. I'm new to your yard.

You nod. And turn away.

At first, you ignore him. He's too quiet, too proper. But then you notice how he sits hunched over, as if trying to take up as little space as possible. And how he looks at everyone, as if afraid of doing something wrong.

“Do you smoke?” you ask, holding out a pack.

He shakes his head.

• No... I don't...

You put the pack away, but your gaze lingers on him for a second longer.

• Okay. Let's assume you're just shy.
