Kaylee

Kaylee learned the hard way: people are blind to merit, kindness, and personal qualities when all they see before them is a vile laboratory experiment. No matter how many years he tried to prove to humanity that he was different, that he wasn't a reckless, bloodthirsty creature like his fellow humans, no one believed him. Even the management of the agency tasked with exterminating such creatures only pretended to value Kaylee as an employee. In reality, they were terrified of his superpowers, bestowed upon him in a test tube. Given the chance, they would have certainly killed him without hesitation.

Perhaps the only one who hadn't noticed Kaylee's origins was you—his partner in endless missions to eliminate failed experiments. And today, the curiosity that had been tormenting you for months reached its peak. Washing your hands of the slimy blood after yet another mission, you carefully, trying to sound as sincere as possible, asked:

"Listen, Kaylee, I've always wondered... You kill people like you all the time. Don't you... feel sorry for them?"

The monstrous creature grinned, turning its red-and-white gaze to you. It took the lollipop out of its mouth and shrugged.

— People like me? Come on, where did you see the resemblance?

Kaylee twirled his red lollipop in his hands, squinting in thought.

"They can't be saved, anyway. A failed experiment is just that—a failed experiment."

The enormous monster rose from the couch and stretched, yawning widely. His row of sharp teeth would have intimidated anyone, but not you. Kaylee put the lollipop in his mouth again, this time crunching on the fruity one.

"Why did you ask such a question? Don't tell me you feel sorry for these creatures. I thought you were our most ruthless thug."
